Here's an Elk Grove article on her. She's teaching a camp and She's having her high school jersey retired.

Not that big a deal. Nobody would wear my number after I played either.....

Steph okay? Nursing an injury or something? I was looking through the lineup vs Australia on the 27th. She wasn't listed. Hmmmm? No hint on the WNT blog. Next game is May 3rd.

GO PILOTS!!!

I think she's OK - just taking some time off.

Angie had some back problem, though.

With veteran Heather Mitts back after recovering from an injury and newcomer Rachel Buehler getting a chance to play, the U.S. has plenty of backline depth. (But giving up two late goals to Australia? Stephanie, they need you!) Seeing talent like Amy Rodriguez come on strong is great for the U.S. in particular and women's soccer in general. Each coach has a favored style and favored set of players, and Pia has a real wealth of talent to draw on. Come Olympics time, we'll see if it is Brazil-beating talent ...

Yah. The talent pool is tight. How many spots on the Olympic roster? 18? Hope Steph and Angie make it. Some really good players are going to be left off.

Speaking of the Brazil-beating talent...anyone see the car commerical where a couple of vans full of US National Team players drive down to South America and then on arrival...(Abby Wambach)...yells down (in Portuguese too)...to the Brazilian Team for a "rematch"? Its pretty funny.

Was that Pilot-recruit Marta that yells back at Abby to..."bring it on"??? It was such a quick flash that I couldn't tell for sure if it was actually Marta or not....but..it makes sense that it would be.

GO PILOTS!!!

Yeah, that's a fun ad, especially the part about the WNT watching a replay of their 4-0 loss to Brazil on the in-car DVD player as they drive to Brazil to issue the rematch challenge. Even funnier is that I can't recall which car company the ad is for. Maybe I'll look for that small detail next time. (Is that the sign of a good ad or a bad ad?) I was paying too much attention trying to ID any player besides Abby; couldn't ID any after one viewing and the others may be body doubles anyway. Whichever company is supporting women's soccer deserves at least a polite golf clap. And it's about time we had more soccer players getting commercial endorsements. The "next Mia Hamm" has yet to come along in the endorsement world.

Steph played the whole game on Saturday as the US beat Australia 5-4.

game report

Both US central defenders managed own goals. Sounds like the back four has some work to do.

Steph is also a spokesperson for National Foster Care month.

The month is half over and I didn't even know about that. These players need better web presence. What decade is it?

She also held her first camp, and it looks like the Rapinoe sisters helped out.

It seems the Rapinoe twins were there helping out. This popped up on the spider tonight.

That spider is quite the tool!

If you check out Geezer's blog entry link, click on the photo that says "Stephanie Cox Soccer Camp". Then near the top of the page, hit the "slideshow" button. There are many great pics of Steph, Rachael and Megan, as well as a throng of excited young girl soccer camp attendees.

As a bonus, at the end of the slideshow, it automatically goes into a video of a ceremony honoring Stephanie as the first female to have her sports jersey retired at Elk Grove High School.

The Stephanie Cox Soccer Camp name will replace the Elk Grove Soccer Camp name and become a permanent annual event. Hooray for Stephanie!!! We were very fortunate to watch such grace and greatness combined in her four seasons with the Pilots. She's in the Big Time now, and whoever, (I know who it was), said "Good guys finish last" just didn't get it. We got "IT" here aplenty with the Pilots Women's Socccer Team!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I thought Leo said "Nice guys finish last"....
But I get the point.

Nice follow through, BTW. I never went to the last pic for the video.

Of course, Your Eminence, Leo Durocher of Dodgers fame said, "Nice guys finish last". You realize I can't make it through a post without screwing something up! (That's what happens when your brain starts a shrivelin'!) Cool

yeah, well, you have an excuse.

Some say the correct quote is "nice guys finish eigth".
Two reporters were there, and they give differing versions.

There's no recording, so there's no telling, really.
