Bakersfield shooting 7-10 from three so far…

For me , the big stat is the Pilots are being out rebounded 22-13 at the half.

They are shooting so well from 3 and we are playing zone?

Not that it affected the game much, but when were defenders allowed to put two hands on the ball carrier?

Outrebounded 36-22 and allowed 13 offensive rebounds. More turnovers, 14-8, leading to a 21-9 points of turnovers disadvantage. CSUB outhustled the Pilots, and played a very aggressive defense that keep causing our guards to pick up their dribble and stall any chance of getting a decent play. Aggressive defense is the formula to beat UP until they learn to deal with it.

Coming in CSUB was under 39% on 3P shots, they shoot 12 of 19, 63.2% this game. Jones #21 was 29% coming in, Hardy #0 was averaging one 3P try per game. Jones was 3 of 3, and Hardy took 6 and made 4. Chiles effect.

UP's NET is 343, last in the WCC and darn near last in the country, while Lafayette's NET is 261, good enough for 7/10 in the Patriot League.

After Lafayette, UP's next five games are against WSU, OSU, GU, SMC, and USF, so this is likely the team's last opportunity for a win for a quite a while.

Although KenPom predicts the Leopards winning by 2, the oddsmakers seem to be looking for the Pilots to pull one out in their last preseason game.  I have seen early odds favoring UP by as much as 3.5 points with a 141.5 over.

I know nothing about the Lafayette team except that they are 4-6 against D1 competition and darn near upset #47 Villanova before losing by 12.

Hoping someone will give us a scouting report.

Pilots win by 10!

Chris Austin had 20points, 2 den, 3 ast on 54.5% FG percentage! Lafayette took a 1 point lead but UP pulled it out. Kelson Gebbers had a career high of 10 points and Aussi Rapp had 15 despite feeling under the weather.

Pilots shot 9-19 on 3P tries, and 7 of those were made by guys off the bench.
20 assists on 25 shots.
15 of 17 on FTs.

The "Chiles Effect" didn't impact the game.  Lafayette was shooting just under 35% for the season on 3Ps, making about 9 per game.  Pilots held them to just under 32% (7-22), and only one Leopard made more than 1 3P (#1 Williams 2-6).  Good defense.

Observation: In all my years as a season ticket holder I have never seen so many traveling calls for the men and women.

Finally found a Portland mbb proboard. I’ll take any type of win right now. Especially with the 5 games that we play to open up conference play
