2024 Schedule

Last week was Homecoming Week at UP, and although Homecoming was a yearly event when some of us were at UP, it was apparently the first event of its kind in over 40 years and included at least 20 events culminating in the MSOC game against LMU.

And what a match it was.  Although the crowd size was not especially large, it included a number of MSOC alums and was at times boisterous as UP scored some spectacular long-range goals in its 5-0 shellacking of LMU...finally showing the team's capabilities that most thought the men were capable of all season if it weren't for all the injuries the team sustained.

It's unlikely there will be a postseason invite for the Pilots (5-4-7, 2-0-4), with just two games remaining, but with USD on the road this coming Saturday and OSU at Merlo on the following Saturday, November 16, the team has a chance to close out the season in positive style.

I think a 2-0 road win over the #3 team in the country qualifies as positive!

It certainly does qualify as a positive, but the Pilots are still on the outside looking in with an updated RPI of 87.

The WCC title and automatic bid is still up for grabs between USD and OSU, but it's probably going take an RPI of 42 or greater to make it to the post season 48-team bracket with an at-large bid.

USD plays at LMU, OSU is at UP, and USF hosts SCU in the final games of the WCC season on Saturday...

So, UP is a lock for at least 4th place with a chance to move up to 3rd.

Nice win for the Pilots on Senior Night...UP over OSU, 3-2, tying the two teams for 3rd place in the WCC.

The eight seniors being honored were Kendi Bellini, Evans, Fernandez, Buba Fofanah, Michael Hatcher, Sebastian Nava, Kash Oladapo and Jose Olmos.

USD wins the title by beating LMU and USF moves into 2nd with its win over SCU.

Both the Toreros and at-large selection Oregon State will host first-round matchups. Both contests will be played on Thursday, Nov. 21, and second-round games will be played on Sunday, Nov. 24.

USD (13-2-2) hosts UC Davis in the first round. If San Diego advances, the Toreros will fly east to face No. 10 seed Duke in the second round.

The Toreros are returning to the tournament after winning a third straight WCC Championship. USD shared the title with Santa Clara last season after winning it outright in 2022.

Oregon State (10-4-3) hosts Gardner Webb in the first round. If the Beavers advance, they will play at No. 3 seed Denver in the second round.

OSU looks to go on a run similar to last season when the Beavers advanced to the NCAA College Cup.

One-and-done for the Beavers as they lose 1-0 to Gardner-Webb in Corvallis.

(I had to look it up, Gardner-Webb is located in Boiling Springs, North Carolina...about 50 miles west of Charlotte).

Meanwhile, USD earned the right to travel to North Carolina to play Duke by beating UC-Davis, 1-0, in San Diego.

Two other Up opponents, Seattle and UW battled it out for 110 minutes before going to PK´s,
The HUSKIES made three of four of theirs while Seattle had all three of theirs saved by the keeper.


And two other UP opponents bludgeoned each other until  USCB scored on UCLA  early in the first OT  for the 1-0 win.
It’s the second year in a row the Bruins went scoreless and got beat in their first tournament game. LMU knocked them out last year 1-0

After beating Duke last week, USD was the last WCC team standing in the Tournament entering the third round, but they lost at home to Vermont, 1-0, on a penalty kick 30 seconds into OT.
