Re: 2022 WCC Season/Games
Yep youve guessed Keyway right... a common term, alongside 'the paint' and 'the key' used outside of north america. In FIBA rules its officially called the 'restricted area'. 'Keyway' appears in numerous FIBA official documents too.
Moving screens are hardly called and wouldnt be a reason for a coach not designing a play with screens in a team foul situation, as evidenced by Mike using a screen in his play to get Maddie open.
It has been interesting seeing so many rule differences even within the USA leagues... college womens different to mens and of course to nba etc.
Must take our aussie girls a little bit of getting used to. Some subtle ones Ive noticed is lining up for free throws. Here you can only have 3 per team including the shooter (so 2 on one side, three the other). The lowest player lined up is also positioned below the 'block', as the block is there to create a little physical separation between the lower 2 from each team.
Another is it being ok there to pass into the back court from out of bounds. Here thats a back court violation same as if passed back during play.

The key, or older, the keyway dates from a time me when the lane was narrower than the face-off circle surrounding the free throw and face off line, giving it the outline of a keyhole.
DD remembers playing on a court like that in Howard Hall. Come to think of it, most of us from the 60’s recall recreational experiences involving magic keyholes.
The FIBA paint had a pronounced keyhole shape from 1966 to 2010.

Yes, when I went to baseball games in the 50’s men wore ties and hats.

Um… pictures from 1918 and 1919 during the last global pandemic… you got fined or went to jail.
Even the kids peeking over the fence had masks on.

Much better shooting game with 52%FG and 40%3P (free throws not so good), especially the first half.
27 turnovers concerning though.
It bumps them up to 3rd in Conf, and back up 63 Net ranking. Itd be so good to see them shoot to that %, reduce TOs and put a full game together against BYU.

Yes, 3rd would be a nice place to be heading to Las Vegas if the team does not finish first or second. Third place would likely put them head-to-head with Gonzaga during the WCC Tournament, and we all remember what happened in 2020.Adam wrote:It bumps them up to 3rd in Conf, and back up 63 Net ranking. Let's not look too far ahead...the Pilots are still on the road against Pepperdine tomorrow afternoon.
Haylee appears to be indicating the game in Malibu starts at 1, but it is a 2pm tipoff, 6am on Sunday in Perth, and a more civilized 9am in Melbourne.
One game at a time...

Apparently the cancellation is because we are going through COVID protocols, not Pepperdine. Let's hope we can return to the court in short order.

Well, back to the San Diego game - McKelle looked great. Back to her old self. Lucy was a force. Nine blocks significantly changed their offense. Alex had another great game. I was surprised Maisie didn’t see more time. San Diego seems like such an athletic team, I expected it to be a much tougher game.

The Pilots checked-in at #18 in today's College Insider Mid-Major Top 25.
BYU is #1 and Gonzaga #4.

(Stephen F. Austin, the team that UP beat 70-54 in December, comes in at #7).

It’s a stretch calling BYU a mid major.
They play in the FBS and are moving to an FBS conference.

Oh no, please be okay, Haylee
Otherwise a great first half. Hopefully they can keep strong for another 20 minutes.

Great that players stepped up when Haylee went down, especially with players still sitting out for COVID protocols.
Let’s hope the injury is minor.

For those of us who weren't able to watch the game, what was the injury? Hate to have any kind of damper on such a huge win.
