Pacific
Pilots won comfortably.
Pacific not a strong opponent. But having watched the Pilots play horribly against Oregon State, which is also not a very strong team, it's important to acknowledge the improvement.
Garrett stayed with the 4-2-3-1 line up. The only change among starters was LaPrevotte in for the injured Kennedy.
Building on the UW game we saw more of the typical Pilots game. Possession play, patience in the build up, one and two touch passing.
Kurle was so solid at holding midfielder. Wetherington was active and involved. Kendrick ran long and fast and appears to be gaining confidence and looking more dangerous. She and Wetherington were connecting a lot in the second half ( that's when they were playing in front of us) and that is a very promising development. Evans plays the sole target role very well. Her ability to hold the ball under pressure from multiple defenders is a big asset in this formation. Neither of her goals were hit with any power but she was in the right place and was opportunistic. Two key attributes for a striker. Jeter is looking more comfortable at center defense. Kudos to the coaches for a position change that is working. DJ had an audacious flick at a corner to create the second goal. She was credited with the goal by the PA announcer but Evans must have gotten a touch as it went in.
St. Mary's will be a tougher challenge but this was a good start to conference play. And a better performance and outcome than we might have hoped for a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Pacific
Winning is better than losing.
Jeter was robbed. In fairness, watching the highlights, it's hard to say, but most likely Evans did get a foot on it. Just the same, Jeter sending it forward with her heel was exciting to see.
Pilots did a good job using the corners and width.
Pacific was hapless.
Ref made some strange calls/no calls, but didn't have a major impact on play or outcome.
I'm bummed Sipple is not starting.
Late in the game the subs did not look good, though I like all of them and expect great things from 12, 14 & 15 next year.
Kennedy was in sweats, large device on her leg, walking just fine.
DeHann played a little in the second half.
Main thing I would like to see different is a lot more shots on Sunday.

Re: Pacific
The folks in the booth talked about Kennedy being done for the year. Unfortunately, I think it's too late for an injury hardship waiver. she has played in 8 contests, which puts her over the 30% of scheduled contests threshold.

Highlights are up.
Looks like a great touch from DJ and redirect by Danica on the second goal.

Re: Pacific
While I'm thinking about it, Parkes Kendrick has the biggest engine of any women's college soccer player I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of them and a lot of really good ones. In fact, I don't think the comparisons are even close. She is from another world.
Re: Pacific
Parkes always brings it.
DeGrood and Luty looked especially good to me Friday.
I just looked up Pacific's ranking 236th.
St Mary's is 106, hopefully they don't give us any trouble.

Re: Pacific
In the buildup to the first goal against Miami, I thought the ball was going out for sure but she ran it down at the goal line and started the sequence that led to the score.UPSoccerFanatic wrote:While I'm thinking about it, Parkes Kendrick has the biggest engine of any women's college soccer player I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of them and a lot of really good ones. Parkes sets the example that all players at any level should strive to follow.

Re: Pacific
St Marys
Pilots played just well enough to win 2-1.
I give Boone player of the game.
High point was lots of our shoots had power.
Highlights are up at Portlandpilots.com
If St Mary's encroached on the PK, shouldn't the kick have been waved off.
Why a do over?
Next up BYU.
Go Pilots!

If the kicking team encroaches and a goal is scored, the kick is retaken.Dan No Yell wrote:
