Wake goes ahead 2-1 over Kentucky right after the break.
West VA is up 1-0 over Penn state.
Lots of lightning delays back East, apparently.

Central Florida 3-0 Washington. The real highlight here was the live stats had UW at 21 fouls. Same old Huskies...

Re: Other scores
The real story was the officiating in Hawai'i. At least one person thought that the officiating wasn't even :PurplePrideTrumpet wrote:Central Florida 3-0 Washington. The real highlight here was the live stats had UW at 21 fouls. Same old Huskies...
The second game in that tournament was even stranger, as Hawai'i and UNC Greensboro combined for 37 fouls ( 27 called on UNCG) and an straight red for each team. Sounds like a Real bloodbath.“@CoachGallimore: @chris_awk "strict" if its a synonym for not very bueno..... Woulda lost anyway, but....... Shocking.”
UNCG pulled that one out with the only score in the 104th minute. They play UW tomorrow.

Re: Other scores
Ouch, from the Santa Clara website before this weekend:
"The opening weekend always gives you a gauge on how well you have prepared during the summer and preseason," said Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith, entering his 27th season leading the Broncos. "If you have weaknesses, teams like North Carolina and Virginia will expose them. We will also find out how together the team is because they will face some adversity. We need to find out how the team deals with that adversity. We'll find out a lot about our team this weekend and see what we need to work on before the NCAA Tournament."

Re: Other scores
I'll add this even though it is not opening weekend any more. Penn State lost to Virginia 5-1. Shots were greatly in Virginia's favor. This was a big shock to me. I think Penn State's defense is going to be challenged this year.

Re: Other scores
How about some scores from this weekend?
OSU beat Texas 1-0 at home. I don't know what was expected of Texas this year but that seems like a pretty good result.
Washington lost 1-0 to Baylor at home. I saw something from Chris Henderson about BU not allowing a shot on goal the entire second half.
Wake Forest, who's coming next week, and North Texas are 1-1 after 90. That's unexpected, to say the least.
Oregon is home to Wisconsin, no score in the first half. EDIT: UO got one with 7 seconds left in the 1st.

Re: Other scores
Pretty big one today
BYU lost to UC Irvine 1-0 on a late score at Provo. They tied Oregon on Thursday.
They went into the weekend #6 in the RPI and end the day at #26.
stats were about even, except that the Anteaters were more agressive (and got called for it).

Re: Other scores
Wake wins today over Miami. which gives them temporary hold of the #1 RPI spot UNC drops to #4
UNC lost to ND 1-0 controversial UNC goal not given.
Both results are good for our RPI as Wake and Stanford are top 3.
Marquette, however, is losing 1-3 to Ill. State. that can't be good.

Re: Other scores
Illinois State was in the 150s or 140s before today, so that certainly isn't optimal (they're #93 now).

yeah. that dropped Marquette from 21 right behind the Pilots to 55. it just shows how volatile the RPI is right now.PurplePrideTrumpet wrote:Illinois State was in the 150s or 140s before today, so that certainly isn't optimal (they're #93 now).

FSU 0-1 1-0 UNC
For the Seminoles that's three straight over the Heels.

UNC seemed content to shoot from 25 yards, and hardly got in the box until they went down a goal.PurplePrideTrumpet wrote:FSU 0-1 UNC

I wonder if they will start asking if their star defender is being played in the right place.

BYU won tonight against Oklahoma after being down 2-0 in the 84th. They had not scored in about 500 minutes.
OK is playing 14 freshmen, and the wheels came off after a red card that put Ok a man down.

Re: Other scores
Santa Clara came back to tie Cal 1-1 after being down.
tried to watch the end of the game, but got a buffering notice - even worse than the Stanford game.
You would think that two teams in Silicon Valley could figure out how to stream a video.

And in a match that has absolutely no effect on our ultimate RPI (we play them both), Stanford beat SMC 5-0.

Re: Other scores
But from an NCAA Tournament perspective, we want Stanford to end up as highly ranked as possible. An away tie with a very highly ranked team is worth a whole lot in the NCAA Tournament seeding and at large selection process.Geezaldinho wrote:And in a match that has absolutely no effect on our ultimate RPI (we play them both), Stanford beat SMC 5-0.
