Re: 2012 schedules
Thank you, eprof...this is SO much better than searching for others to post. Today is substitute day for our mail, so now, at 4:21, it STILL hasn't arrived...I am looking forward to seeing the packet for tickets.
I really like the gap between ND and Seattle. We are bringing BOTH cowbells and loud voices for that 9/16 game.

Re: 2012 schedules
Just found another bug in my transcription: SMC is also on the road. Let's try this again:
I'm really thinking that the "18 Oct" against BYU is 13 Oct, especially because it's listed at Saturday, 18 October. It's hard to believe they'd schedule 3 league games in four days, including a flight to San Diego.
The OSU game is really listed as Monday, 20 August, however.

Re: 2012 schedules
Looking at strength of our schedule compared to 2011. Same 7 conf games. Both years we have CS-N, USC, OSU, Seattle and San Diego St. BU about the same as La salle, WSU about the same at Denver, UW about the same as Fr St, FSU a few spots better than UNC, UC-I low 20 rpi vs ND mid 40's. Stanford 2nd rpi better than UO 90's.

Re: 2012 schedules
8 conference games.
And I'm not sure you can say UNC or ND are a step down from anyone in the coming year.
ND was rebuilding last year after a championship and have, by all reports, a gangbusters recruiting class.
UNC has one of the best classes coming in in years. They have several players who will be playing in the u20 World cup. Our only saving grace there is that those players will still be seeing Nat duty. Even then, they will be formidable.
And even the teams we play both years aren't a direct comparison. USC, for example, hasn't announced its incoming freshmen allegedly because three were refused admission.

Re: 2012 schedules
Official Release:
Pilots to Host North Carolina and Notre Dame among Rigorous 2012 Schedule
2012 Schedule
PORTLAND, Ore. --- The University of Portland women’s soccer program will open the 2012 season by hosting the North Carolina Tar Heels on Friday, August 17. It is the first of many top-tier opponents to visit Merlo Field at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex this upcoming season. The Pilots will face seven opponents that reached the 2011 NCAA playoffs, including four of the seven programs in the nation to own NCAA championships in women’s soccer.
Portland has led the nation in average attendance seven consecutive seasons. Based on the 2012 scheduled released on Monday, the Pilots should have a good chance of making it eight in a row with a loaded home schedule. In addition to 20-time national champion, North Carolina, the Pilots will also host three-time national champion Notre Dame as well as in-state rivals Oregon and Oregon State among the 12-game home slate.
The Pilots open the year with three consecutive home games. Following North Carolina, Portland will welcome the Oregon State Beavers on August 20 in an NCAA first round rematch from last season. The Pilots knocked off the Beavers twice in 2011, both in dramatic fashion. Portland earned a 2-1 overtime victory at Merlo Field during the regular season before the teams played to a 1-1 draw in Corvallis for the playoffs. The Pilots advanced in a penalty kick shootout.
The Oregon Ducks visit Merlo Field on Friday, August 24 during Orientation Weekend on campus. Portland has defeated the Ducks in 16 consecutive meetings.
A weekend trip to the Husky Invitational in Seattle, Wash. pits Portland against Fresno State on Aug. 31 and 2011 NCAA first round participant La Salle on Sept. 2.
Portland will then play back-to-back games against former national champions as perennial power Notre Dame will visit Merlo Field on Friday, Sept. 7 and then the Pilots will travel to 2007 national champions, Southern California, on Sunday, Sept. 16.
The Pilots will conclude non-conference play with four more home games beginning on Friday, Sept. 21 with a rematch against Seattle University, who defeated Portland 2-0 last season. Denver visits on Sept. 23 and Cal State Northridge comes to town on Sept. 27. The Pilots closes out non-league action with San Diego State on Oct. 7.
The West Coast Conference sent four teams to the 2011 NCAA playoffs and returns another crop of very talented teams for 2012. The Pilots open league play at Gonzaga on Oct. 11 before hosting BYU on Saturday, Oct. 13. Following a tough road trip to San Diego (NCAA third round) on Oct. 19 and Saint Mary’s on Oct. 21, Portland returns to host Pepperdine (NCAA first round) and Loyola Marymount the weekend of Oct. 26-28.
League power and Portland rival Santa Clara hosts the Pilots on Thursday, Nov. 1 and then the season concludes with San Francisco visiting Merlo Field for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 3.
The 2012 NCAA playoffs begin with first round action on Nov. 9-11 at campus sites, while the NCAA College Cup will be played November 30 – December 2 in San Diego, Calif.
The Pilots return 13 letterwinners and seven starters from a team that reached the second round of the 2011 NCAA playoffs. First Team All-WCC selection Micaela Capelle headlines UP’s returning letterwinners after the junior led the league with five goals during WCC play as a sophomore. Capelle also had a team-best seven assists, while junior Amanda Frisbie is Portland’s top returning scorer after registering six goals during her sophomore campaign. Also returning for Portland is former all-league selection and redshirt-junior Kendall Johnson, who missed all of the 2011 season due to a knee injury. Portland also adds five talented incoming freshmen to the roster this fall.
Portland season tickets will go on-sale to the public on June 6. Mini packages will be available on June 18, while single-game tickets go on-sale Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. Packages can be purchased in person or over the phone at the Pilot Box Office at the Chiles Center (503) 943-7525. Single-game purchases are also available at the Pilot Box Office or through all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com or over the phone at (800) 745-3000.

So Notre Dame plays 2 matches at Merlo the weekend of Sept. 7-9, but Portland only plays one match? That is strange.

And ND plays a fresh UW team, apparently. Sound familiar?
It looks like the TBA on the original schedule fell through.

That would make sense -- the Pilots are allowed 20 games and only have 19 on the schedule as of now.

I'm not sure the staff feels any special pressure to fill that slot.

I'm not sure the staff feels any special pressure to fill that slot - especially with a small roster.

Good point, especially the small roster part. We want to have at least 10 field players when we get to the NCAA semis and we don't want them all beat up when they get there.

Re: 2012 schedules
Another reason that UP's schedule may add another team for the Nike Invitational in September is that last year the University of Washington posted their 2011 schedule on January 19th and have yet to post the 2012 schedule.
UW is the obvious (to me) co-host with Portland for the Notre Dame event, but I have never seen a Nike Invitational that didn't have 4 teams.
There are still many schools who have not posted their schedules that may be possibles...such as OSU, UC Irvine, and TCU. I'm keeping an eye on those postings.

Two of those three are not possible, according to postings from other schools.
We already have OSU on our schedule in August and UW has them during the pac10 season, so they are out. The same reasoning would seem to rule out any WCC or Pac12 teams.
IC Irvine is scheduled to play Denver and Cinncinnatti that weekend.
Other obvious choices (Seattle, Pacific, for example) have full dance cards the week of the tournament.
TCU's dance card is still open on those dates, though, according to The portion of the Nc-soccer composite schedule that has been filled out to date.

Re: 2012 schedules
It seems Butler and Virginia Commonwealth have defected to the A10 effective July 1, and are redoing their schedules to play a full A10 schedule this year. The rest of the A10 schools are adjusting their schedules as well.
Maybe there will be an orphan from previously scheduled teams we could pick up for the Nike Tournament.

Gonzaga just posted their 2012 schedule.
Very interesting to note that they have UW scheduled for Sept. 7 in Spokane when Portland shows UW in Portland on Sept 9 playing UND.
Is it possible that there is some misinformation coming from one or more schools? Nah!

Actually, that sounds completely possible and even likely to me. Most likely, part of the deal with Notre Dame is that UW will have a game Friday night.

Since, at this time in the year, postings about the upcoming season will be sporadic, I chose not to open a new topic. All White Kit has posted their first preview of the 2012 season and, although I didn't see a UP reference, it is a pretty good read.
