Re: Other round 1 games
My goodness... there is hardly ANYONE at the Cal-SCU game... sad with both teams being local... but really, a couple hundred (if that) is all SCU can draw for a home playoff game?!

Ouch, looks like Pepperdine lost at home to LBSU, 1-0, with the game winning goal at 99:49. Tough loss.
Cal & SCU currently knotted at 1-1, 80th minute.

Sat Evening/Nite Update
Auburn beats Utah State 1-0 even if Game Tracker and the bracket didn't notice.
Washington State advances over Kentucky 1-1 4-2 in PKs. The Cougars next travel to Charlottesville to take on 2nd-seeded Virginia.
Louisville beats Dayton 2-0.
Baylor over Texas State-San Marcos 3-0.
Marquette beat Toledo 1-0 and will travel to Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem to play 4th-seeded Penn State, unless my pod geography is incorrect.
Less close were Memphis over Tennessee-Martin 7-0 and Wisconsin-Milwaukee over Illinois State 3-0.
Tonight's nightcap is UCLA-New Mexico for the right to play San Diego.

Last night Stanford beat Montana 3-0 with one of the goals from Mariah "Naw-gee-air-a" as Brent Musberger put it during the Oregon-Stanford game. ABC/ESPN had him force in a bit about how Stanford has the #1 team in the country and a clip from the soccer game.

They had to talk about something, and the soccer team's passing and kicking game is better than the football team's.
Whitaker could use some practice with the women's team

Re: Other round 1 games
In Sunday games: BC on to second round, as is Geo, duke and Illini over ND. Last year's champ out in first round.
The message for all elite programs including ours is that in this age of parity you can't keep doing the things you have always done and expect to recruit the top talent or automatically win games. Players are good everywhere and the coaching improved also. Being involved in classic soccer locally we are seeing good players come out of even the lesser clubs. College coaches need to be expanding their networks not just think the top players will only play at their local club. I just feel the outreach at UP is not what it could be.
