Any guesses on teams that will move into the top 50 or so next fall? Last year we had Hofstra and UC-Irvine do well. Teams that were out of grace last year included, LSU, WSU, Texas for example. Will SD be a top 20 next year? Many years since Pepperdine has been a seed or made the tourney for that matter. Will anyone other than UP and SCU get tourney bid? BYU? Any surprises in the PAC12? Will Stanford repeat? Will OSU challenge? Any chance for Cal, UW, UCLA this year. Is UO years away? In ACC how many times will UNC lose? Is it BC's, FSU, MD, or UVA year? In SEC, is FL top, or do S Carolina, Geogia challenge. Looking at recruiting sheet, lots of teams have majority of point scorer or goal scorer returning. Anyone challenge ND in Big East this year? can WV improve on last year?

Surprises in 2011 Empty Re: Surprises in 2011

I took at nc-soccer where the schedules are posted and history of RPI for each team for the last 5 years.

First for conferences that normally only have 1 tourney team.

American East: BU has made the tourney last 5 years in a row. It's RPI for the year from 2010 to 2006 was 43, 82, 49, 122 and 44.

Atlantic 10. Pretty much Dayton or Charlotte show the last 5 years. Dayton rpi's 19,33, 46,41, and 109. Charlotte 68, 46,21, 38,102. Both very strong for conference with only one bid.

Atlantic Sun. We have seen Mercer last year and Kenesaw St a couple of years plus Belmont and Jacksonville. Kenesaw had one year with RPI at 57 but most years no one strong enough for at large bid.

Big Sky -- A couple of yeas for Sac St and N. Az and one for ID St. No one cracking 100 in RPIs.

Big South-- High Point lately, We have seen Radford and UNC-Ash. Most years these teams in the 100's or 200's which is where HP was recently.

Horizon--Has been Milwaukie show in 4 of last 5 years. Loyola(Ch) did make it in '07 and '06. Milwaukie rpi: 59,85,26,80,42.

Ivy--Penn in '10 and '07, Harvard '09, and '08. Princeton in '08 and Columbia in '06. Of those Harvard has best RPI for the stretch: 67,83,34,89, and 226. Likely on one team from this conference and since they don't have conf tourney you won't have one team get lucky there and get auto bid.

Metro-Atlantic--We've seen Loyola (MD) in '09 and '07, Niagra in '06, and Fairfield in '08,. and Siena in '10. Normally conf in 100's but Siena had 54, 106, 114, 249, 199. Quite improved over the 5 years.

Mid-Am--CMU lately and Toledo before. CMU rpi's 57,49,120, 208, and 86. Toledo: 51,123,61,103,146.

MVC-- Creighton in '10 and '07. Evansville in '08, Ill St in '09, and Drake in '06. Creightons Rpi's 85,169,116,96,168.

NE: St Francis (PA) last year, Monmouth in '09 and '07. LIU in '06 and CCSU in '08. RPI for winner normally just under 100. *3 for St Fr last year.

OVC --Morehead St in '10 and '08. SEMO in '07 and '06. Murray St in '09. high rpi's in 100's and 200's for these teams.

Patriot--Lehigh '10, Colgate '09, Army '08 and Navy for two years before. Lehigh rpi's 80, 107,230,178,142.

Souithern: UNC-GR in 10 and '07 and '06, Davidson '09, W Car '08, and Furman in '07. UNC-Gr has strong rpi's at 21,61,43,26,74.

Southland: USTA '10, SELA '09, Tex St '08, SFA in 07 and '06. USTA had rpi's of 119,207,152,218, and 189. Only one team likely from this conf.

Summit: ND st, SD st, IUPUI and Oakland. RPI's in 100's and 200's for these teams.

Sunbelt: Denver was there 4 of 5. M Tenn in '10. Denver RPI: 40,62,36,62,25. Strong for one team conf.

SWAC: MV, GR, AR-PB. AL-A&M . All weak.

WAC: FR St in '10 and '08. Their RPI 116, 221,155,128, and 49. Still a one team conf.

I'll cover Multi-Team conferences in separate post.

looking at the recruiting spreadsheet on the 2010 roster breakdown tab they have the returning goal production listed. Those teams with 80%+ are:

At 80% UP, S. Caro, and PSU
81% Ok St & MD
84% USC, FSU & WV
85% BYU
88% WF
89% OH st, UNC
94% OSU
95% Duke & Den
96% FL
97% S.FL,
100% Wis

Who knows wether this means much or not, but Denver should be back in the tourney hunt, S. FL might not be a one and done team. MD should continue their run for a 3rd year. BYU will be tough opponent down there, ACC's teams will remain tough, OSU returns a lot and might give Stanford run for their money this year.

Also, noticed on the recruiting SS that UCLA has 8 or 9 players in 2011 with NT experience? Way more than any other school.

Saw another Dimartino listed going to BC, how many sisters are there?

How many are from the U-23 National Team? Didn't we have about 11 players with some form of national team experience about 2 seasons ago?

How good could they be anyway?

The u17 team didn't qualify for the first time in the history of any US women's national team, and Jill's u20 team got knocked out in the quarterfinals, also a first.

Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
