2012 recruit news
2012 recruit Taylor Alderete scored the game winner in overtime as Cal South 94's won the ODP Nationals.
1994 Girls
In a rematch of last year’s final between Cal-South and New Jersey, this year’s result was the exact opposite. Last year, Cal-South gave up a one goal lead late in the game as New Jersey came out on top 2-1. This year, New Jersey grabbed the lead in the 87th minute on a goal from Gabby Galanti, but Cal-South’s Makenzy Doniak leveled in stoppage time and Taylor Alderete scored the winner nine minutes into overtime as Cal-South claimed the title 2-1.

Re: 2012 recruit news
Maybe this is the wrong thread, but I noticed in SoccerRecruiting that Elli Boon from Washougal committed for 2013 class. She is a great goal scorer.

It's a good enough thread for me!
Re: 2012 recruit news
It would seem that things are looking up recruiting-wise for the class of 2013, at least in terms of NT recruits. There are now 2 recruits listed with NT experience, and the best part (in my opinion) is that Boon seems to be a prolific scorer. Further, the third recruit (Wetherington) also seems to have NT camps listed several times. Does anyone know the difference - why Boon and Hall are listed in blue with U.S. NT experience and Wetherington isn't? All three seem to have the same types of accomplishments listed.
The class of 2012 also has three players listed, none with NT experience. Let's hope there is a Kendall or two among them, and/or that we get a few more in that group.
Hey - maybe Garrett isn't maybe such a dud as a recruiter after all.

Here are the "accolades" that are listed at the site:
• National team player pools
• National team camps
• Regional ODP player pools
• Regional ODP trips
• NSCAA Awards
• Gatorade State Players of the Year
• USYS ODP National Champions
• USYS Golden Glove and Golden Boot winners
• ECNL All-Event Teams
Here is what is on Wetherington's "accolades" list:
2009 Region III ODP
2010 February id2 National Camp
2010 February ODP National Camp
2010 Region III ODP
2010 ODP Thanksgiving Interregional
2011 February ECNL/id2 National Camp
2011 Region III Spain Trip
2011 Region III ODP
The difference I notice from the first two is that there is no listing of National Team Camp or National Team Pool. I think that probably is the difference.
Re: 2012 recruit news
OK - I see - It looks like she got a little beyond the normal ODP stuff that many players list. Do you know what the id2 national camp is?

Re: 2012 recruit news
I saw Elli Boon play in high school as a sophomore couple of games last year. She was like a woman playing with girls. She's apparently even more dominant this year as a junior per friends in Washougal.

Re: 2012 recruit news
FFA,
Actually Garrett has done pretty good in recruiting NT and NT Pool players as shown below:
Recruited 2008
Charney Burk: Got her first break with the U.S. National Team Program at the U-15 level ... Played in Holland with the U-16s ... Also traveled to Spain with the U-18s.
Michelle Olivier: USA Under-18 National Team (2008-) … USA Under-17 National Team (2007) … USA Under-16 National Team (2005-06) … USA Under-15 National Team Player Pool (2005).
Danielle Foxhoven: USA U-20 National Team player pool (2008-) … USA U-17 National Team (2006-07) … competed with the U-17s in Argentina (2007).
No. 8 Kassi McCluskie: USA Under-14 National Team Pool (2004) … USA Under-16 National Team Pool (2006).
Recruited 2009
Cloee Colohan: U.S. Under-20 National Team (2009-) … U.S. Under-17 National team (2008) … captained U-20s at the 2009 10 Nations Tournament in Spain … played and started in five matches for the U-20s in 2009 … captained U-17s to a runner-up finish at the 2008 World Cup.
Recruited 2010
Michelle Cruz: U.S. Under-20 National Team player pool (2010) … trained with the U-18 U.S. National Team (2009-10), scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over the U-23 U.S. Women’s National Team … played with the U-18 U.S.
National Team in La Manga, Spain (Feb. 26 – March 6) … also played for the U-17 Puerto Rican National Team at the CONCACAF Championship in Trinidad in 2008 … played in the 2007 Thanksgiving Interregional for the U.S. U15 National Team …also a member of the 2006 and 2007 National Team Identification Team.
Ellen Parker: U20 U.S. Nation Team Pool … U18 National Team Pool … ODP State and Region (2005-08).
Recruited 2011: None
Atlhouogh I don't agree with Geez on very much I do agree that NT players don't necessary make a team. It's more important how players are developed after they are recruited. It's also very important that the players stay healthy. The Pilots have had bad luck in that departmen lately:
K. Johnson - two knee injuries.
C. Colohan - a series of leg injuries.
K. McClusky - back issue.
DeYoung - pelvis issue
Fox - lower leg issues
MO - lower leg issues
Klier - retired due to chronic lower leg issues
Many of these injuries are due to plain old bad luck. But some may be due to training techniques. I would sugget the Pilots stay away from running long distance and interval training on asphalt Even the SEALS and the Marines try to stay away from that.

Re: 2012 recruit news
Any more on the recruiting class for 2012? Topdrawersoccer only lists three players for U of P. My math is not the best, but the women graduate six players this year and only have three coming in. That leaves the team three players short from this year's squad. There has to be more that are not listed on the site. Anyone have any leads or ideas of the whole listing for the 2012 class of incoming freshmen?

Re: 2012 recruit news
This is probably the un-commit that I mentioned back on 10/14 in the San Diego thread. As I was told at the time, the thinking by staff was that there was a change of heart in the midst of the Pilots poor results and someone had convinced her it was time to jump ship while she could.

Re: 2012 recruit news
So, when is the deadline for 2012 commits to announce the school they are going to sign with for next year? It seems like the coaching staff would be very, very busy trying to fill all of the necessary roster spots with all of the graduating seniors from this past year's team.

Feb 1, which is the letter of intent signing day. Until then, players can do whatever they want.
You have to understand that commitments carry NO legal weight. The letter of intent program and the NCAA expressly state that a recruit can change her mind up until they ink and send in the letter of intent.
There are all sorts of protocols schools follow, but those are custom and courtesy, not NCAA rule.

Some schools don't recruit players who have committed elsewhere. Some have no problem with it. I think it was Tubby Smith who once said " I love commitments, it helps me decide who I should be recruiting".

I'm wondering if there's any scuttlebutt about possible transfers coming in next year?

Come on now, Garrett has never been a dud as a recruiter. He has years of experience and Clive was a great mentor. Furthermore, as the cost of tuition continues to go up full ride scholarships are worth more and more. If someone wants to offer my daughter an 80 K full ride scholarship to UP someday, I will gladly accept. You can´t break a recruiting machine with one sub-par season and the our team needs are pretty obvious too...

I assume that comment wasn't directed at me. I was making that very point in reacting to a few other posts at the time. The class of 2012 does look pretty weak, both in quantity and quality, at least right now, but the class of 2013 looks much better.

Edenstrom is a 5'11" central defender/holding midfielder who also plays some at right defender and forward. She's been a starter since her freshman year in high school. She also is a basketball guard and has played varsity each year and is a starter. I believe the tweeter is reliable. but this hasn't appeared yet on the soccer recruit website.
