For those curious about UP soccer before Clive Charles: Mike Davis, men's soccer coach at UP from 1979-85, just wrapped up his coaching career at my high school, Catlin Gabel, here in Portland. Davis coached at Catlin for 24 years, and his last team just claimed the 3A/2A/1A Oregon state title with a 1-0 vicory.
Here's the Oregonian story on the game: http://highschoolsports.oregonlive.com/news/article/8071163065120286833/soccer-catlin-gabel-beats-st-marys-in-overtime-of-3a2a1a-boys-title-game-sending-mike-davis-out-a-champion/

BTW, the Catlin Gabel girls also won (also beating St. Marys) for a sweep of 3A/2A/1A. Jesuit accomplished the same sweep in 6A.
