Re: 2011 Recruit News
Irish78,
It's good to have you has a pipeline from the Seattle area and hopefully funnelling more talent down our way. I know most Seattlites are hard core husky fans, but it just takes one or two...aka Justi Baumgartner, Michelle French an more recently Michelle Sweeney an Janelle Jacka. I love the NW flavor of this team with more to come!

Emily Sippel
Emily attends Westview and is on the list of Portland recruits for 2011. She didn't play for Westview two years ago because she was injured. She didn't play last year because she was injured. And this year, once again, she is injured. Per another Westview parent, she suffered her third ACL tear. She is highly rated and it must be based on very limited play in club soccer since she hasn't been healthy for high school soccer.

Re: 2011 Recruit News
i know i 've advocated for emma an molly for outside backs next year, but seeng how they have hardly played this year i am reconsidering things. as someone mentioned earlier about kendall play the outside for the u-20 team i think thats a good call. and for the other outside, what has u of p always done? they have taken forwards and mids and turnd them into outside backs. how does brook taylor at the other outside for next year sound??

Re: 2011 Recruit News
I would bet good money that Kendall will be left outside back next year. As has been said here, she played there for the U? national team. At outside mid, she is a very strong 1 on 1 defender, a necessary skill for outside defenders. She has good enough speed to keep up with fast attackers, and I can see her overlapping the outside mid and crossing. I also don't think she is a good finisher (shooter), which you would like your outside mids to be. Also, there seem to be more likely replacements for outside mid than for outside defender. Finally, there is the UP history someone mentioned of turning offensive players into outside defenders. I think she will be a great replacement for Ellie.

Re: 2011 Recruit News
Both Elli and Jess are converted attackers. And Courtney Verloo looks a real find as a center back. Could be for Kendall.
I'm much more concerned about seeing her play again this year and seeing how this season plays out. Speculating about next year is how we occupy our time in the off season!

Re: 2011 Recruit News
I looked around for some info on Isabel Farrell and found this interview on the Crossfire soccer site:
[Crossfire] What are your life’s ambitions outside of soccer?
[Isabel] I want to get good grades throughout high school so I can go to UC Santa Barbara.

Re: 2011 Recruit News
Harry Redknapp, your wish was granted -- Kendall played well in a long stretch at left mid against the Huskies. Nice to see her back.

Re: 2011 Recruit News
I was surprised how good Kendall looked, for the first game back. She looked very strong to me, not tentative at all. I'm afraid you might be right, Harry, about Kendra. What a shame.

Re: 2011 Recruit News
Wow, big surprise. The recruiting website just listed Isabel Farrell as a 2012 verbally committing to Washington. Didn't see that coming. One of the Washington Asst Coaches is Jim Thomas and he has coached her at Crossfire.

Re: 2011 Recruit News
Rebekah Kurle has confirmed her commitment, choosing Portland over Oregon, Washington and California and probably many others.

Maybe this should be for another thread, but anyone know anything about this recruit? I have been travelling for about a week.

I noticed that she did run track this year. Her specialty appears to be the 100 meters. Best time this year, towards the end of the Spring season, was 13.50.
Re: 2011 Recruit News
Three ACL tears ... that's tough. Sprinting in a straight line must be easier on the knee than changing direction and high-speed stops and starts. Here's wishing good health to all recruits.
