Michelle signed a contract with the breakers. the club that drafted her, the LA Sol, went belly up.

And just like that, she's gone.

The Breakers waived michelle today. Maybe they thought she isn't recovered enough to help them this year and can't afford another player on the payroll.

They let two healthy players go, too.

In today's economic climate, women's professional sports (especially soccer) is a very risky career path.

I think it is especially important for the young women now playing college soccer to take advantage of the college educations their soccer skills have (at least partially) created for them (i.e getting accepted at good schools like UP, Notre Dame or UCLA) and study subjects that allow them to enter a very competitive job market after their graduations.

I think the MLS faces the same problem. That's why the players asked for more guaranteed contracts and threatened to have the lockout before the season began. If you're making the league minimum contract of the MLS (about $40,000, I think) and then you tear an ACL on a non-guaranteed contract you're in serious trouble. I'm sure the WPS is even worse...

She'll be taken by someone, and they'll be glad they did.

I think you're right. And I hope so - I love to watch Michelle slash and burn.
