yup. you did. there were three.UPWomenSoccerRookie wrote:, I missed it.
today? looking for a burn barrel to hug, or wishing we were inside.Where have our inside sleuths been?
Hailee DeYoung is injured, thus Michelle Olivier was the “unknown” keeper.
who said she was unknown?
Olivier made a nice stop on a set piece, and handled the other two SOG's comfortably. She also came out of the box a couple times to cut off runs. She is now tied for the best record in goal of all UP keepers. She's going to have to learn how to yell, though.
the rest of us aren't that smart.I was sheltered by the roof on the press box. And darn glad that I didn’t intend to stay for the men’s game!

Re: spring training
Ellen Parker is #22. Her father was sitting in front of us. I thought the goals were 1. Sophie (on a header), 2. Halley and 3. Taylor, but maybe it was wishful thinking on my part.
Sarah Bridges was in the stands with her father.
There appeared to be more Pilot fans at the game than Beaver fans.

Re: spring training
The Pilots shut out the Beavers in mid-November weather that happened to be in early April. We even endured sloppy-wet hail at the end. But UP's impressive 3-0 first-half lead that held through the second half gave the purple visitors a lot to cheer. For those of us who arrived a few minutes after kickoff, the Pilots truly did have a mystery keeper; I didn't figure it out till the soaking wet Pilots filed out to the bus and I could ID Michelle Olivier as the shutout queen. Think of it: a central defender converted to keeper shut out a Pac-10 team that made the Sweet 16 last season!
I concur that the goals were 1-Sophie (off an Emma Nelson long ball to Keelin, who headed it to Sophie, who headed it in); 2- Hallie from passes by Jessica T. and Taylor; and 3- Taylor, who faked a defender big-time to score. Kendall beat her defenders at will to make crosses and threaten in the box. Hallie had other chances and couldn't quite convert them. Sophie looked like she is at fall strength even now, as she pushed and challenged and tackled with abandon. BTW, Sophie started at mid and moved up front in the second half. So nice offensive work by the attack and the defenders moving up to support them.
Pilots D really didn't allow the Beavers to do much of anything at all. Beavers had nothing going up front. Besides Emma starting in place of Michelle O. at central D, Kristen Kelly played in the middle of the back line and did very well. Sarah Jackman played holding mid with strength when short-haired (unrecognizable, actually, except for her number 11) Kellin was out for a spell after one of the many hard tackles noted earlier by other posters.
Ellen Parker in jersey 22 did just fine. She held her own in her first college "game" and showed both her physical and skillful sides. I think fans will like her. She looks tall and slender, a bit like Janelle Jacka (at least to my aging eyes and at a distance) but physically stronger.
I was surprised by how the Beavers did not meet the challenge as I expected they would. They are a team on the rise, but the springtime Pilots put a freeze on them.
Who and what did we miss that we'll never see again? No Kelsey yelling her lungs out exhorting the defense. No Michelle E. shredding the D with her runs. Ah, memories. Pilots 2010 look ready to fill in those gaps and play on. That's how I saw it.

Re: spring training
Man...I don't know about you but that was really sad to hear about Kendra! ACL injuries are cruel cruel cruel!!! Haven't we been cursed enough? Megan, Racheal, Michelle...and now Kendra?! After the fantastic 2009 season Kendra had...I was was sure she'd be even more of a key offensive player for the Pilots in her 2010 senior season...an All-American year even! Shoot!!! Hope she has enough time to rehab and play again!

Re: spring training
First, I'm bummed out by the news about Kendra. She's such a talent, held down only by injuries. Here's hoping we see her on the pitch again in the fall. Now the questions for those who were in Corvallis: was Taylor playing in Kendra's spot at right outside mid? Did Cloee make an appearance? So far no one seems to have mentioned Danielle -- did she play? What about Elli? And does anyone know yet the time and place of the supposed game with Trinity on April 11?

Re: spring training
I know sometimes we would not think of Kendra's name first when considering all the great attackers we have but she is a wonderful player. When you combine her with Kendall on the left the Pilots are dangerous down both wings. I for one will miss watching her while she's out.

Taylor was playing Kendra's spot at right outside mid. Cloee played and looked to be in fine shape. Elli, Danielle and Jessica all played their usual skillful, aggressive games.

Re: spring training
It's a tribute to the Pilots multidimensional offense that the first recaps of a 3-0 win had no mention of Danielle. The actual goals and other scoring chances came mostly from others against the Ducks. It's unlikely the spring opponents with keep Fox in the Box off the scoreboard for long.

Yjanks, Geezer. Too bad I can't skip work to see UP-PSU. I hope some witnesses on the scene can report on the action.

Re: spring training
I wonder who our Keeper will be this time?
Any guesses?
I'm going with Kreminski - she played round ball in HS...

I chatted with Michelle O. on campus yesterday for a minute or so. She apparently cannot run full-tilt, and in her words her teammates "voted her in" as keeper. I expect that she will be filling in as keeper all spring.
