UNC is tied at half time with High Point... must be a heck of a Bunker job.

I guess. The Heels are outshooting High Point 24-0 in the 65th minute. UNC's first foul was around the 57' mark, but they got a team yellow card around 46'. Would this be Anson showing frustration?

It's weird.

One of the best teams in the Nation that can beat any player on High Point's team 1v1 is trying half field passes to Bicycle kick finishes.

I don't doubt they will eventually get a score, but this is pretty undisciplined.

Wouldn't it be amazing if they got beat by a team with an RPI of 241?

I've been watching about 10 minutes of the video feed. (I found the link on High Point's website, but not on UNC's.) I don't think High Point will even get a shot in this game. Virtually all of the play is in HP's defensive end.

I just don't see them as a legit National Champ contender... but I've been wrong before.

UNC didn't look like a top ten team; too much running around and not doing much of anything. Maybe they just weren't taking the game seriously.

It is looking like FSU will face Cal on Sunday. The Pilots handled them earlier this year, what is the scouting report. I know they have Morgan, who I think leads about every stat category for the Bears. I am hoping FSU can neutralize her and get some goals quickly.

USC and OK St going to penalty kicks.

Update: USC saves the first PK, but loses after 7 rounds.

Hmmmm the Ole Miss squad was seen in the downtown Couve area around 2 and I can confirm that there was a person razzing them... I'm assuming they were Huskies, but they apparently were wearing purple so who knows... Tourney Results Icon_eek (And no, it was not me)

Yeah, I heard the UNC score and thought, "Did I hear that right?" Anyway...

THE Ohio State 1-3 Oregon State. Well done by Linus and the Beavers. They get 3 seed Florida Sunday.

In the WCC:

Santa Clara 1-0 Michigan State AET. Anessa Patton in the first minute of extra time.

San Diego 0-1 SDSU. It appears someone on the USD bench was acting up as Gametracker shows a team red in the 84th.

Cal's defense is very good, There's no question that they try to run the offense trough Morgan. She's the best player for them on the field. You'd better be careful if you try to double her. If you leave Kervorkian unmarked, she'll kill you. (sorry, couldn't resist Razz )

they are a pretty physical team, but nothing like WSU. The front line does get off some nice combinations.

Three upsets in the first round, by my calculations:

1. Oklahoma State over USC, 0-0, decided on PKs, at Santa Clara. In RPI terms, this was a big upset, but Oklahoma State has just won the Big 12 tournament and is hot. So, I don't think it's a big upset. Santa Clara and Oklahoma State play on Sunday, and I think it will be a great win for Santa Clara if they can win.

2. Central Michigan over Purdue 2-0, at Notre Dame. In RPI terms, this actually isn't that big an upset. Nevertheless, this raises big questions about the strength of the Big 10. However, Central Michigan had a great year, going into the tournament 16-3-3.

3. Oregon State over Ohio State 3-1, at Ohio State. For my money, this is a massive result and the biggest upset of the first round. I thought going in that this was a statement game for the Pac 10 and for the West. Ohio State is the #2 team in the Big 10. The Beavers beat them in Columbus. Big, big, BIG! Next for Oregon State is Florida, a #3 seed. If the Beavers could win, it would be .... And, Florida this year has not played well away from home. Could it happen?

I agree that this was a triffic win for our OSU. Here's hoping they win again on Sunday.

I thought that OSU and WSU played us tougher than any teams we faced at Merlo all year. It's no surprise that they are competitive in the tournament.

Just an awesome result for the Beavers! More power to them (except when plaing the Pilots).

A bench ejection in the San Diego game and one at Merlo...

I wonder if bench behavior is a "point of emphasis" for the NCAA this tournament. They often designate special things that they want referees to watch for as a season or a tournament begins. That would certainly be consistent with what I saw last night at Merlo, where no cautions were issued to players despite many questionable fouls (called and uncalled) but a caution and an ejection were issued to the bench.

What are some things Portland did against Cal that led to the Pilots scoring 4 goals? I have a bad feeling about tomorrow, FSU is not firing on all cylinders and plays way too lax often.

I'd love to watch the Cal FSU game tomorrow (hoping for an upset - California dreaming for sure!). Is it being broadcast anywhere?

UP did two things:

one is that they marked Alex Morgan tightly and she got nothing going as a consequence of that attention;

and, two, they ran at them with pace from both sides.
