Media coverage 2009
we've already had a couple of articles, but I figure it might be nice to dump them in one spot.
Here's an article from the Examiner.com that will interest everybody. It's got something on every fall sport. Looking at it, you'd think maybe they should just mail the commisioner's cup right now.
I don't know Timothy Denison, but I like him.

Here's the O's report
Short but sweet.
http://www.oregonlive.com/pilots/index.ssf/2009/08/portland_3_oregon_0_up_opens_s.html
The 6 shots on goal is a bit of creative scorekeeping. One that went up on the board was stopped at the top of the arc by the defense, one was a slow roller directly to Kelsey, and one was a slow roller she went to the top of the box to retrieve. Had she not done so, it might not have reached the goal line.
She did make a nice diving stop and went out to challenge onrushing forwards a couple of times....

Cal Game Article
Out friend Mr. Denison is sticking with us.
He wrote another article on an upcoming UP game, this time pointing out that CAL had a blowout against the Wolfpack of Nevada, and Alex Morgan had a hat trick.
Tim-
We aren't the Wolfpack.

These results should remind everyone that even if you are playing an unranked opponent you cannot take the game for granted.

Re: Media coverage 2009
Broncos lose? No doubt...the State of Utah has a good stock of players developed through a strong youth\club system! Luckily...their best have become Pilots! ...Hailee, Ellie and Cloee! Almost had Lindsi Lisonbee too ..a blue chip recruit...who changed her commitment to BYU!
With mention to Colorado too...who have given us...Kendra, Danielle and Keelin!
GO PILOTS!!!

Re: Media coverage 2009
Weren't we in the top four in RPI last year? The top four teams in the RPI at the end of the season are guaranteed to be the host teams for the playoffs through the quarterfinals of the 64-team tournament.

Re: Media coverage 2009
I dont believe the quote from the O is correct... isnt it the top 4 seeds not top 4 RPI that are guaranteed home field?
Obviously there is a direct correlation between RPI and seeding, but we all know there seems to be some voodoo magic as well...

Re: Media coverage 2009
We were in the top 4 in RPI last year (number 4), but Notre Dame was number 5 in RPI and was undefeated, so they got the final one seed. Consequently, as one of the four 2 seeds, we got the first two games at home but then had to travel to play the one seed in our group, Stanford.
Nice article on Sophie.

Re: Media coverage 2009
Well just flat out getting the facts wrong and making tournament seeding/hosting black and white is probably way easier than trying to explain what actually happens...

Re: Media coverage 2009
With the travel rules in effect, A top seed doesn't guarantee anything. We were a top seed in 2005 and had to travel for the first two games, and the same thing happened to Santa Clara the next year.
It does more or less guarantee home field in the later rounds if you make it that far, but even that isn't always so. USC has had to travel because their field sucked, and there is a clause about not sending teams to remote locations or Alaska and Hawaii.

Best line: Giving up 0.5 g/game is still too many for the Pilot defense. Love it.
