a name from the past
I was reading that New Mexico State is starting a D1 program from scratch this year, so I went to their website to see if there was any developments. The lead story today is that Stephanie Rigamat was hired as an assistant coach.
Anybody remember how she fits into Pilot lore?

Re: a name from the past
Being that she went to UCLA, she must have scored on us...

Re: a name from the past
Im going to take that UCLA connection a step forward/back. UCLA met up with Portland in the 2000 college cup semi-final and lost 1-0 in San Jose according to the media guide. I can't definatively find who scored against us but I am venturing a guess it was Rigamat.San Jose, Calif.
I checked out the UCLA website which keeps pretty good records here is the first line of the recap-
Stephanie Rigamat's goal in the 77th minute of play helped lead the sixth-seeded UCLA women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Portland Friday evening in the NCAA College Cup semifinals before 8,870 at San Jose's Spartan Stadium.
I suppose we will be seeing some pokies flying toward the NM coach's bench the next time we play them.

You're right! I found the above by going to the Pilots website, going to women's soccer, then to archives, and then in the search function entering Rigamat.

Nice job UPSF. Now I was reading the pilot version of the game that you found and it was much more specific than UCLA's. ie she scored off a header.
Now lets see if we can really get a vague connection. That article mentions a shot from UCLA's Tracey Milburn which was saved by UP Cheryl Loveless. What ties does Tracey Milburn have with a current Pilot player.

Good job. That game was the second time UCLA beat UP in the tournament. The first time was in 1997 when the Bruins came to Merlo unranked to play 7th ranked UP and wanked out with a 1-0 win that time.
As long as we are playing the names from the past game, who was the UCLA coach in 1997?

She and Kelsey both went to UCLA.
Is that vague enough?

Well that wasn't the one I was I was thinking about although its certainly true.Purplegeezer wrote:Auto Pilot wrote:

You have the right player but I was thinking about a more obscure and older connection.

Re: a name from the past
Haven't got the current player connection, but she was a teammate of Michelle French's on the WUSA Washington Freedom team.
Re: a name from the past
Another tidbit I ran across while trying to figure out Geezers game. Frenchie was an assistant coach at UCLA for a pretty good spell. Now its Shannon Mac. Seems UCLA likes to pick the Pilot brain.

OK, Tracey transfered from a WCC school to a Pac10 school, and Kelsey transfered from a Pac10 school to a WCC school..

Re: a name from the past
Ok I will give it up since I am the only one on this board that lives in SoCal. Tracey and Kelsey both played club for the formerly known Las Virgenes Blazers. The club was known as So Cal United when Kelsey went to college so it was really obscure. However as you pointed out. The similarities are uncanny. I never would have figured out the WCC Pac 10 transfer mojo. I am glad I don't play cards with you. I would be poorer than I am already.

Re: a name from the past
I'll make a guess that Milburn was one of Kelsey's So Cal United Club coaches.

Both were coached by Kristy Walker?

It is now know as Real So Cal...as in Real Salt Lake and Real Madrid.

Re: a name from the past
UPSF you made the connection but Tracey never coached for the Blazers/So Cal United. Funny thing one of the relatives (Portland Resident) of one of the Blazer parents used to wear a Portland Trail Blazers Jersey to the games. He was the hit because there was no fan merch for the young club team.
