Re: Megan on the radio tomorrow!
That should be interesting. Megan is the heart and soul of the team!
Her perspective is always very valuable and insightful.

And don't I recall that Canzano comes from the "who cares about soccer" wing of the Oregonian sports page? That could be interesting in itself.

Re: Megan on the radio tomorrow!
Anyone else listen to it?
Megan gave a nice interview... talked a bit about her injuries, the new women's soccer league, and the impact of Clive Charles.
Then it got a bit silly, as they had her take penalty kicks in the hallway against their producer John Strong. Megan acquited herself well in the playoffs, and I never thought I'd hear John Canzano say, "Ooooooh! John Strong... takes one in the groin area!!!!"

It was a good interview, too bad they didn't continue with the interview instead of the frivolity. Megan is very poised and expresses herself exceedingly well.

Re: Megan on the radio tomorrow!
John posted this on the Timbers forum:
He also notes she deserves a TA scarf for being such an all-around nice person. So yes, Megan Rapinoe was just in kicking balls at me. Firstly, it was kind of an honor to have a player like that shooting at me, instead of the guys who troll around indoor soccer arenas weeknights at 10 pm, which is what I usually get. Second, even though she was definitly holding back, they were moving. She was nice enough to keep them low for my own safety, until the end when I think she was just trying to hurt me. She was sucessfull. Still, good times, and an example of why I love this job.

Re: Megan on the radio tomorrow!
Canzano writes about soccer maybe once a year. He's spent more column inches recounting crimes against humanity by ex-Trail Blazers than he will ever spend on women's soccer. I remember him giving his indispensible advice in print to Sinclair and Huie and the rest of the Pilot seniors before the finals in 2005. Like they didn't know WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE. Maybe he's about to get on the Pilots bandwagon for one column's worth of opinion.

Re: Megan on the radio tomorrow!
Yeah... Canzano openly admitted in the interview that the last time he watched the Pilots play was the finals in 2005.
Megan gave him a hard time... would definitely be nice if he spent some time and did a column and recaptured a bit of the public attention that came along with the 2005 title run.

Thanks DaTruRochin, that video is priceless. Maybe we'll convert Conzano!

that guy has proven what a real class act he is... i despise him... he had don garber on before and he was very rude... garber was talking to him and all of a sudden he hung up the phone on him... then later tried to say he did not mean to...

Re: Megan on the radio tomorrow!
When did the O start letting columnists have radio shows? Didn't Dwight Jaynes leave for the Tribune for that reason a few years back?

Re: Megan on the radio tomorrow!
Maybe we should take it as a good omen that the last time Conzano took and interest in the Pilots' women's soccer program was in 2005, our last championship year.

Re: Megan on the radio tomorrow!
Well, the other good omen is that Portland seems to win championships every three years.
