Selection Show Thread
Figured we should start one now...
Anyway, just FYI... all season ticket holders (like me!) are invited to come to the Hall of Fame Room to watch the selection show with the team, coaches, administrators, etc. It starts at 5 PM, will last til about 5:30.
I've been to it the past few years - it would be nice this time to actually celebrate instead of leaving ticked off. Not sure if I can make it today though... we'll see if I can sneak away from work a bit early.

Re: Selection Show Thread
Not to worry Stoney, I've got you covered. This will be my 3rd time attending one of these announcement shows and I've come away disappointed twice. But I've got a good feeling today that #3 will be a charm and I'll leave the building with a big smile on my face. Sorta like this -

I think that I may make it this time, provided little aleppiek's immunizations go well and he is not fussy all day

Re: Selection Show Thread
Thanks for giving this info on this thread. Did not know season ticket holders could attend. Unfortunately, work is in the way. Otherwise, I'd be there. But keep the third times a charm going and land the games here.

I will have to remember that for next year.
My family have become big Pilots women's soocer fans this year. This is something my daughters would have love to have attended. We just are not season ticket holders. It would be nice if they something up for the general fan where they could all watch together.

And while trying to catch up on things I didn't have time to read over the weekend I read this thread before the other one. Sorry to be out of the PB loop!

Re: Selection Show Thread
Sorry I've been away all day, but I've been working at my computer crunching numbers. Here are my predictions on seeding. This is from a post in BigSoccer that has some prior references, but just keep reading and you'll get to the four seed "pod" groups. It's going to be a close call on whether we get a #1 seed. It's probably between us and Stanford. But, who knows?
UW should get the #15 seed. Washington State should be "in." Oregon and Loyola Marymount should be "out." No other major big surprises from our end.
Onward and upward!
GO PILOTS!
I've continued using my system in an attempt to set the four groups of seeds, i.e., four #1s, four #2s, etc.
If I'm right that USC, Texas A&M, Washington, and Missouri will be seeded, then according to my system they will be the four #4 seeds.
That was easy, but I next tackled the four #1 seeds. The difficulty is that five teams are in contention -- North Carolina, Stanford, UCLA, Notre Dame, and Portland. There are some, but not a lot, of head to head results. There are some, but not a lot, of results against common opponents. The "tiebreak" considerations provide some help, but not a lot. I've done comparisons of the teams as follows:
UCLA and Stanford
UCLA and North Carolina
North Carolina and Portland
Portland and Stanford
Stanford and Notre Dame
Stanford and North Carolina
I haven't done all the possible comparisons, but have a pretty good idea what they would show.
The Committee is going to have to make some hard judgments, as in my opinion, with one exception, the correct decisions are not clear. With that in mind, I see the following:
Four #1 seeds: UCLA (this one is clear), Portland, Notre Dame, North Carolina (not necessarily in order)
Top #2 seed: Stanford.
If I am wrong, the likely revision will be Portland and Stanford switching places.
It's 4:30 pm and I won't have time to look at the #2 seeds and the #3 seeds in detail. But, taking a quick look at head to head results, I see the #2 seeds as:
The one of the above five that doesn't get a #1 seed
Florida
Virginia
Florida State
That would leave the #3 seeds as
Boston College
Penn State
Oklahoma State
Duke
If the Committee places the seeds in the bracket following traditional bracket formation rules, then I see the order the Committee will follow in each of the four groups as (with the #1s being the most questionable):
1.1 UCLA
1.2 Portland
1.3 Notre Dame
1.4 North Carolina
2.1 Stanford
2.2 Florida
2.3 Virginia
2.4 Florida State
3.1 Boston College
3.2 Penn State
3.3 Duke
3.4 Oklahoma State
4.1 USC
4.2 Texas A&M
4.3 Washington
4.4 Missouri

little aleppiek's
Classic. I am going to start calling mine Little AP. Kind of sounds like a Rap Name. I am chanting in my head "number one seed Portland" "Rounds 1 and 2 Merlo Field.....Merlo Field" No you guys know how much I love these women. Because it would be easy for me to wish to watch them in my own backyard. "Merlo....Merlo....Merlo"

Re: Selection Show Thread
Nice work. It would seem to me that if it's between us and Stanford for the #1 seed, we should get it, since they were erroneously awarded the #1 slot last year over us.
Yeah, I know fairness is an afterthought for the committee, but I just had to vent.
