2009 recruit Elinor Priest in State playoffs
Here's some news about future Pilot Elinor Priest: I went to see her St. Mary's Academy team take on West Salem in the first round of Oregon HS tournament. Elinor, though being called a midfielder in earlier Oregonian stories, played striker vs. West Salem and led the Blues to a 1-0 win, scoring the only goal. St. Mary's plays a lot like the Pilots, with good ball control, a possession and passing game, and solid defense. Elinor was a force up front, winning balls in the air, turing at speed and launching shots at the goal, and laying off passes to open teammates. She had 4 shots on goal (all too high) before connecting off a nice pass from midfielder Meghan King. She took hard collisions and bounced back up. She played the full 90 and was a clear team leader. Pilots fans will like her.
St. Mary's plays Tuesday vs. Tualatin.

Re: 2009 recruit Elinor Priest in State playoffs
Last night, rather than watch red states and blue states on CNN, I went to Tualatin High School to watch Tualatin play St. Mary's in the second round of the state playoffs. Yes, I sacrificed Election Night in front of the tube in order to see future Pilot, Elinor Priest, in action.
She didn't disappoint. She got some nice touches in the first half which showed off her excellent wheels. About midway throught the half she got the ball on a breakaway down the left side and got off a good shot which the keeper was just able to deflect out of the goal. Then, with about 10 minutes left in the half she fed a nice through ball to a streaking teammate in the middle who scored. Tualatin came out strong in the second half, though, limiting Elinor's touches and eventually winning the game. It was 3-1 Timberwolves when I left with about 5 minutes left to play.
With her speed, Elinor should be exciting to watch when she suits up in purple next season.

Thanks for the Elinor update, Poopdeck Pappy. Looks like her season is over. But fans of future Pilots will have another chance Saturday when Lincoln and Jesuit clash in the next round. That should be a good one.

That match was too long.
I think they should go to shootout.

In addition to Elinor Priest's intended signing of a letter of intent as a Pilot in the Spring, St. Mary's Academy's Rachel Fischer will be signing a golf letter of intent on Wednesday.

I looked at the Mt. Hood conference girls' soccer all star list and was surprised not to see Elinor on it. Did she only play a partial season? I certainly trust the UP coaches' choice of players, so I must be missing something.
