Senior Day
Just a reminder that the Santa Clara game will be Senior Day for the Rapinoe twins. Bring you lungs primed to cheer them for everything they've given the program in their stay here.
and prep a spot for them on our side of the railing next year.

Re: Senior Day
Do you think there is any possibility of Rachel being on the coaching staff next season?

Re: Senior Day
I would imagine so, since I believe that I heard Garrett saying that Lisa would likely join the women's pro league... would be nice to have Rachel on the bench, although she may have other challenges she would like to tackle.

Re: Senior Day
Bringing the graduated players back as coaches is so good for the program. As Lauren Orlandos Hanson quipped to me earlier this season, UP soccer is so great that "none of us wants to leave."

Re: Senior Day
I was just reading the Press release for the game.
Santa Clara game release
Two interesting things:
1) they have Korie listed as a senior for Senior Day. I thought the reason to redshirt her was so she could play next year. (maybe it still is.)
2) they got a great headline -- "Wholly Schmidt"

Re: Senior Day
We have a great bunch of center backs that the Pilots have recruited in the 2008 and 2009 classes. At one point a few months ago, we also had national recruit center back Lindsi Lisonbee commit for 2009, before changing her mind and commiting elsewhere.
Perhaps Korie decided it would be beneficial for her to graduate with her real class, the class of 2009. She is, afterall, in academic reality a true senior this year. (For soccer, she is a redshirt junior, with one year of eligibility remaining. However, she does not have to play next season if she chooses not to.)
Best of luck Korie. I, for one, am going to miss you on the field and off. You are one classy young lady!

Re: Senior Day
The game program early in the season listed Korie as a redshirt junior. I suppose that she reconsidered during the course of the season (maybe after her ankle injury) and decided not to use her redshirt. I agree with FANatic that I will miss her. I got used to yelling "Go Korie" over the years for either Cory Alexander or Korie Nicholson.

From PortlandPilots.com
No. 5 Korie Nicholson
Position: D
Height: 5-8
Class: Junior
Hometown: Mission Viejo, Calif.
High School: Mission Viejo HS
But, maybe she has other things she has her sights on. Best of luck no matter what happens.

Korie will be sorely missed next year if she decides not to play. Her play against Santa Clara today was outstanding.

Re: Senior Day
I thought it was nice they put Rachel out on the field for the last minute. I gotta say, though, I held my breath the whole time.
I'm sure Garrett told her not to contest anything.

Re: Senior Day
i agree that it was totally classy by the u of p coaching staff to put rachel into the game for the last minute. but i am equally sure that garrett talked with the santa clara coach before hand of what he was going to do an that santa clara would not come near rachel. it was such a great sight to see rachel's teammates hug an congratulate her after the game. sweet!

Good call, FW. Garrett was talking with Smith between the benches late in the second half. I wondered what they were talking about, but I'll bet you've hit it on the nose.

Re: Senior Day
Rachael's curtain call is the kind of classy moment that elevates UP soccer to a higher level. Just seeing her take off her warmups caused a major fan uproar. Put this one at the top of the feel-good moments --- so far.

Without a doubt one of the coolest sports moments I've ever seen. Add to that Megan's goal and people will be talking about this match for a long while.

Re: Senior Day
WHAT happened to the Mic???
That's the only part that sucked today! The Seniors and their Parents deserved a better public address system than that megaphone? After the National Anthem...it just died? I know its been talked about a lot...but this was one episode that we can't miss...or have back! Sheesh!

Re: Senior Day
I am starting to think that the mic may just need some new rechargable batteries. ESPNU engineers should have made sure there were no capture (override issues).
As T Wally suggested a can and two strings might work better. Either that or get Garrett Morris to do the News for the Hearing Impaired skit from SNL.

Re: Senior Day
Yeah, I can confirm what aleppiek said... not sure exactly what the exact problem was, but the whole PA system went down for a bit. Thankfully they were able to fix it pretty quickly so it would work during the game, but it's the first time that has happened in as long as anyone can remember. Sometimes technology decides not to work at the exact wrong moment.
So this time, it wasn't the fault of the microphone.
