U-23 game at Merlo

The University of Portland women’s soccer team will host another high-profile spring soccer event with an exhibition match against the United States Under-23 National Team. The contest is scheduled for Friday, April 18 at 7 p.m. at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex.

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, March 26 at 11 a.m. through all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com, or over the phone at (503) 224-4400. The Pilot Box Office will also be open for in-person sales, Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. All seats are reserved and ticket prices range from $8-12 for adults and $6-12 for youths. Group packages of 10 or more are available at $5 per ticket (bleacher seats only).

The U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team is coached by a familiar face to Pilot soccer fans: Portland Director of Soccer and men’s head coach Bill Irwin. A long time assistant coach with the U.S. Soccer Federation, Irwin took over the U.S. Under-21 team as head coach in 2007 and moved into his current role when the U-23 team was recently established.

The U-23 team is preparing for the 2008 Nordic Cup this summer and has played five matches since the start of the year. The squad is 2-2-1 with wins over England and Norway, a pair of losses to England and a draw with Germany. Current University of Portland redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Davis was with the team for all five contests and played in three matches. Davis is expected to play with the Pilots in the exhibition match.

I thought you had mistakenly started typing K-E, and instead of continuing with L-S-E-Y, you ended up with Kendra. But it does list Kendra. I don’t think the Pilots have enough bodies to have her play with the U23s. But since the camp will be held in Portland, she may be able to practice with the U23s for that week, especially since most of the days of the camp are AFTER the scrimmage.

And Cori will be there also.
