Youth teams don't ordinarily publish roster numbers.

The flaming red hair will be a pretty good clue with Sippel.

For the ones from the North-

Leahy will big the big one in the middle of the defense.

(in red here)

Kurle will be the big one up top. with the blazing speed.

I went today but was a little late. Final score of 5-4. Sippel was not in attendance. Kurle had a sweet goal on a cross from her right. She blasted her volley at the near post to the far post. She forced a couple of saves. She also had a 1vs.1 with the keeper and the keeper smothered the ball at her feet. Leahy had a couple shaky moments when matched up against the pace of #7. Over all though she was pretty solid in the center. There was a great sequence in the box in the second half. A FC Portland had a blast at the endline that was bending go off of the crossbar. The loose ball was pounced on and the follow-up shot was saved off of the line by a diving defender.

Over all I was impressed with the quality of the match. It was interesting that there was no referee. Bill, Garrett, & the rest of the coaching staff was in attendance. I met a couple of the professors, one of them was one of the members of the panel that interviewed Clive for the head coaching job. He also told me about a soccer fan named Andrew Guest and now I am going to try to find his blog and the rest of his work.

Cheers!

Who is #7 for FC Portland, does anyone on this forum know? I watched the match and thought she was outstanding.

Turned out the FC Portland team was a year older than the Emerald City team. That is why Emily wasn't there but Sara Bridges was. I don't know the name of #7 for FC Portland but she is headed to Oregon.

Is #7 Micaela Capelle? She almost always knew where to put the ball immediately, she's fast, she has a strong shot, and she's resilient to make up for her size.

She is headed to Oregon, so presumably she was #7.

Thanks, Geez, for the link to Andrew's article. I became a Portland fan back in 1998 after watching them play UNC at the College Cup - that was a truly fantastic and scrappy game! In fact, UP's women's soccer program was a big part of my decision to move to Portland after getting out of the military (that and beer) and I'm glad I did. The women's program keeps me happy all year round, even though I am happier when they don't lose to teams from California or North Carolina. Very Happy

Next season promises to be even more fun than this one, but I have a question for those of you who have been following the recruits: has UP picked up a tall center defender? Our lack of size on the back line is a serious nagging problem.
