2010 Recruits
Is it time to start talking about our outstanding incoming class yet? By my count we have two outstanding keepers, two top-notch forwards, and a couple of capable midfielders coming in. (Plus healthy center backs, we hope.)

Re: 2010 Recruits
Here is recruiting spreadsheet for those who have not seen it. Notice top recruits Lauren has coming to UO in 2011. Hope OSU success gets them some better recuits. UW and WSU not much other than locals. Other than SCU, no one else in WCC getting top class. We need them to step it up so we get battle tested week in and week out for our conference schedule.

Re: 2010 Recruits
Would be interesting to compare the rating UpSoccerFanatic did for teams in quarterfinals against recruiting rankings. I would bet some of the top teams will rank high on both categories, but others like the Pilots would show they have gotten more from their recruits than other teams with better recruiting rankings.

Without Soccer Buzz I don't know of anybody that ranks recruiting classes.

TopDrawer does, as does Takkle.com
Here's previous discussion about the 2010 class.

I needed a new heel for my shoe so I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on them. Give me five bees for a quarter you'd say. Now where were we, oh ya. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because if the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...."

I know those two sites rank recruits individually, but unless someone ranks recruiting classes by school, we won't have info to compare our final finishes with our recruiting rank.

Re: 2010 Recruits
Given the strength of the Pilots squad this does not have to be a strong class overall. Pilots return 8 players who started at end of season plus Cloee.
GK already in place: so time for two freshmen to settle in; if one of them is good enough to keep Hailee on the bench then all to the good but no hurry.
Maybe one of the incoming players is good enough to fill in for MichE - either directly at forward or indirectly at midfield.
I watched Sarah Bridges for Jesuit in the 6A final and she looked to be in the same class as Kendall - who played in that game a year earlier. Parker has good bio coming in. If either of them can have the same impact as KJ then we are in a good place.
Cruz and Frisbie both have good stories - so reasonable chance that one of them could start up front with Dani.
All considered this could be a good class for UP.
Real test comes the following year when Jessica, Elli, Keelin, Sophie, Kendra all leave.
But in a game that has 11 on the field you really need to recruit three starters and a couple of good subs each year to have a great team. If you can average that ratio then you are good shape.

It seems as if they are all offensive-type players. I hope one of them has the skills and smarts and especially the speed we need to play alongside Danielle next year, so we can keep Sophie at midfield.

Re: 2010 Recruits
I think that Cruz and Frisbie could compete for that role.
And Parker and Bridges may be the Keelin and Sophie combination in apprenticeship.

Re: 2010 Recruits
I hope you are right on both counts, Harry. I think the midfield combo (Keelin and Sophie) may well be the most difficult part of the team to replace when that class graduates.

Re: 2010 Recruits
True. They arwe both triffic players. But Keelin was not all star coming out of HS. And that holding mid role is an interesting one. Maybe that there is someone coming in who can do really well in that position, and it's not flashy and could eb someone who has all the right facets to excel in that role but did not show up in national team age group camps etc.
Then you've got outside defense to worry aboput when jess and Elli move on.
But again: who woud have foreseen Jess being so good in that position. Maybe there's someone who was a forward in HS who can make that transition and eb a star in the UP system. I have great faith n the coaching staff.

My dad lives in Texas and he went and saw the women play against Texas A & M. He sat next to Frisbee and her parents and told them all about how great the Bluff experience is. He said that Frisbee is very nice and has a great offensive mind.

She just looks like such a perfect fit for our program. With the bandana and that breakaway speed, she'll definitely be a fan favorite.
