We sent our Wallet back to El Segundo?? Empty We sent our Wallet back to El Segundo??

Ummm...so I must admit, over the last year or so I have not been following my Pilot athletics as closely as I would like to. In fact I just found out that my favorite current (well I guess former now) Pilot basketball player is no longer enrolled at PU (yeah, I am bringing it back). Now, I didn't get to see any games last year, but from what I heard and read he was one of our top three players and was arguablly going to be the top returning player. It is very dissapointing to hear that he is leaving for academic reasons like so many who preceded him.

Now I am sure this has been brought up before, but I am too lazy to do my own research. With all of these players failing to make it academically (it seems to me like 8 or 10 players in the last four or five years) is Coach Reveno raising the academic standards for the players he is recruiting? It seems to me that it would be tough to build a program when only about half of your recruits stay the entire four years (unless they were jumping to the NBA, which is certainly not happening with the Pilots). It is not like they are getting that great of players that is seems to be worth it to be bringing in higher risk players. I would think the program would be better suited to bring in high character guys for a few years until the program has built a stronger base, then when the program is a little stronger, then maybe take some risks in the recruiting season.

I am sure that much of that has already been said before, whatever, I just wanted to get that off my chest.

Yeah... it sucks that our boy Wallet is gone. Let's just hope that someone else will come and we can use a Tribe Called Quest reference again.

Pretty much all of the new recruits have been very solid academically and squeeky clean in terms of character stuff... definitely a reaction to all of the players that transferred and left due to academics, but also a reflection of Reveno - the guy recruited at Stanford for the past 10+ years, so he knows the drill in terms of fighting for strong academic kids that can also play the game.

Once things get stabilized, I would expect them to take a risk or two on some big-time talent... that's the only way to really make a leap in the WCC. But as long as there is a solid foundation and those risks are relatively rare, it's totally cool with me.
