OOOh!

One of my concerns was his ability to get up and down the court, but if he played two years of Lacrosse (aka "the fastest game on two feet)" and "the little brother of war", I'm encouraged by his ability to move and to mix it up a bit inside.

I like what I read.

The Tribune had comments in Jason Vondersmith's column about Hegarty, and Reveno commenting that he came because of the coaching staff's reputation for working with big men. There was also discussion of Reveno's interest in the Stanford job. Basically, he was intrigued, but not asked.

Finally, there was a note that Alex Tiefenthaler is leaving PSU for NAIA Concordia. Guess that's 'strike two'. Hope he finds a place he can succeed.

Geez,

Based on a lot of hockey watching and a little lacrosse, I've concluded it's like hockey for kids who can't skate. No questions from me about Hegarty's toughness or mobility.

Well, it is some like hockey in that you need a stick, penalties involve man-down play, and midfielders go in shifts, But you have to be able to run in the open field like in Soccer, and play around the goal is a lot like basketball, with zone and man defense, setting picks, and the rest. The main difference is that the coach likes it if you whack the guy with the ball. If you can't run, you are worthless in the sport. Even the goalies need to be able to move. (if they can move well, it's a great asset.)

If you want to see some great Lacrosse, this weekend is the NCAA championships, and they are usually great games. The two D1 semi's are tomorrow on ESPN2 starting at 9:00AM (Pacific). The finals are Monday at 10:00AM. I noticed there is also a MLL game today at 4:00

You forgot that, at least at the Jax, they fight, too! I've mostly seen some Jax games, but when I see an outdoor game on TV it's fun to watch.

When I was in high school, if you told me I could play a sport where you run around with a helmet, pads, and a giant stick I would have signed up right away, but there wasn't a lot of lacrosse out here yet.
