Pilots Draw 1-1 with Timbers

Wow, Physical game. Scoreless at half, Timbers scored early in the 2nd half. Then pretty much all heck broke loose. Lots of cheap shots, late tackles and the like. Ultimately 4 yellow cards and 1 red were handed out. The red on a retaliatory poke to Collen's eye by a Timber player after Collen came in hard and drew a yellow. Collen really sold the poke and the Timber player was ejected. Late in the game Logan hit a rocket from about 20-22 yds that beat the Timbers keeper. Unfortunately the Timber's keeper was taken out not long after on a 50-50 ball that a Pilot attacker got to at the same time. Hope the keeper is ok, he seemed to have a lower leg injury.

Anyways I'll leave the analysis of the game up to the more elloquent of you Pilotnationers out there.

What the H&ll!? I thought it was an exhibition--you know, since the Timbers start next week. Save the eye gouging for the games that count, boys.

this match shoulf of never even let it get to the point of all those reckless and dangerous tackles... that ref was a disgrace... as soon as it got that physical he should of shown the red several times...

Something tells me we may not see the Timbers scheduled as an exhibition game for a bit after that one. Way too much opportunity for someone to get seriously hurt. Did it strike anyone else as funny that the one player who seemed to escalate things was a UP Alum. ( Gregor) I wasn't surprised, from my seats at half I overheard him say to the official "I am not going to put up with any stupid stuff out there" Isn't that normally something that should be left to the official? Now granted that was not one of the best officiating jobs I have ever see, but still.

Gregor is a very good player..But has a reputation for getting silly yellows and reds.
He lets his emotions get the best of him and either retaliates or mouths off to the ref.

I've seen it numerous times!

I'm also a member of the timbers board and they are not too happy.

They may be upset..But they also need quality pre-season/friendlies.
They can't get anyone else who is so close.
They just need to have a little talk before these games and maybe prep the officials.

My wife and I commented before the game even started that the center official has had some shaky games previously, but that he had gotten better last year, scratch that... he totally lost control of the game.

Red kits? Is that an alternate color?

Yeah, they are this year's alternates.

That would be the one.

So... nearly 1 week removed from the game some quick thoughts... Our strikers had a really tough time facing up once they received the ball from the midfield, and usually were not receiving the ball in an advanced enough position to do anything with it even if they did face up. Our wings did a good job of attacking the outside, particularly Leland, he really impressed me last week. Frankie had his moments, but was for the most part over matched physically. I would like to see Collen do more to create in the offense as well, all in all the team looks fairly strong, but obviously the offense takes a little longer to come around in limited training time.
