I am not sure whether these young ladies just signed or signed during the early signing period, but welcome aboard.

UP has another Hawaiian connection as Aven Lee joins the program as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator...

Noteworthy that Ms. Bray initially signed with the Beavers, apparently. Curious as to why she is a Pilot so quickly after being listed by the Beavers as part of their incoming class, a freshman. The Beavers noted in their release that she is 6'1", a middle blocker, and participated in track and field at Corvallis High.

Be reassured that our athletic department is capable of acting despite the pandemic.

It would appear she didn't actually sign a NLI with OSU, but instead a financial aid agreement...meaning she could walk away from it at any time as only the school is committed.

I believe the fact that her high school and club teammate, Ryan Gregg, signed with UP had a lot to do with her changing her mind...that, and I believe there's a Hawaiian connection with UP's coaches too.

The volleyball team is snagging what appear to be quality recruits.

Go Pilots.

Thanks for the explanation on the flip to Pilots.

BTW, I thought financial aid agreements were rare. Strikes me as odd for the Beavers not to seek an NLI commitment from their prospective student athletes. Is it possible that the Pilots had not offered under the prior head coach?

Beach Volleyball Signs Three New Recruits:

The Portland beach volleyball team has added 2019 All-Orange Empire Conference member Kendall Nolan, 2019 Hawai'i State Champion Hemakanapuaikamaluhia "Maluhia" Hirahara and Southern California standout Sophie Lee to their roster, announced head coach Dylan Hamilton.
Coach Hamilton wrote:"The 2020-21 school year will be the first time we have a full beach class, and I am so excited to have Kendall, Sophie, and Maluhia joining us on The Bluff." "They each bring a unique play style, and a competitive spirit, that will drive us to continue improving all year round."

Unless I've miscounted, UP just added the fifth new player to the volleyball team, Jiana Lawson, from Tucson.

Lawson, who has played as both a right side and a middle, twice landed on the all-conference first team, and she was named to the 2018-19 Coconino All-Tournament Team while at Catalina Foothills High School.

It would be nice if the U, when posting these blurbs regarding prospective student athletes, included their heights, germane information in both volleyball and basketball--where the last blurb on Mckelle Meek likewise did not include height, but that one can easily be looked up.

Regardless, Go Pilots.

Of passing interest is that following the coaching change in volleyball last fall the Pilots apparently lost Izzy (Slavic name) Sch . . . .Gatorade POY in Oregon originally committed to the Pilots to OSU, who then lost Bray to us. An interesting exchange, with interesting timing.

If you are referring to Izzy Guzik, who played only one full year at UP, she transferred to Ole Miss last summer, before the coaching change.

Not sure of whom you are speaking in your reference to Oregon Gatorade POY.  Has UP had a volleyball Oregon Gatorade POY at UP in the last 10 years?

Guzik is a different player, who I am familiar with. Izzi Szulczweski, as indicated was Oregon Gatorade POY and initially committed to Pilots. She is listed on OSU website and was coming here until . . .something changed her mind.

https://osubeavers.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/izzi-szulczewski/8014

A blurb from the Oregonian regarding Izzi:

Szulczewski is one of the most versatile players in the state, equally dominant at setter and outside hitter. She earned second-team Class 6A all-state honors a year ago, leading the team in kills, hitting efficiency (.272), aces and assists, and finishing second in digs and passing. This season, the University of Portland commit leads the team in kills (3.6 per set), hitting (.319), assists and passing while averaging 2.75 digs per set. “Izzi is an excellent all-around player and team captain,” Mavericks coach Brooke Mayo said. “She does a great job running the offense and is an effective hitter and blocker. Izzi brings a competitive and energetic spirit to the team.”

Not just words, but action and leadership:   cheers
"Leading the march was a group of black community members, holding a sign that read, “White Silence is Violence.” The protest was organized by 2020 Corvallis high school graduate Naveah Bray. Bray is enrolled at the University of Portland starting this fall...
