I assume this was all done to avoid starting the season before Christmas.
Yup, you are correct!
WCC wrote: Why the change?  With the way the calendar falls, we are in year two of a three-year stretch in which a traditional 10-week schedule would have us starting WCC play before Christmas.  After beginning on December 21 last season, our coaches and athletic directors decided it was best to amend the schedule this season and next to play over nine weeks.

Funny they put "request from our national broadcast partner" last on the list of considerations.

Uh-huh.

This schedule, that will require a lot more air travel, should be a huge benefit to both BYU and Gonzaga as they do not have to rely on airline schedules and will be able to depart immediately after their Thursday night games....allowing them much more down time and preparation in the next city.

Seems some UP alum/supporter should be able to step up and provide a corporate jet....there are a number of former NBA players that have the means and the airframes. tongue
