Hardest rock climb on earth

Post by Geezaldinho on Wed Jan 14, 2015 12:57 pm

Nobody has ever put together that many hard pitches on one route.
One of the guys is now two rope lengths from completing the climb

Here's a 3D topo of the route.

They are on the traverse at about the 2400' level

There is another way up?

Who Knew?

There is a climbers trail on the ledges in the gulley kind of where is says Lower Brother on that map. There is some easy technical climbing, though. And the Yosemite falls trail is only maybe an hour up or down if you are in reasonable shape. Alex Honnold, another climber, carried Tommy's toddler up it today in about half that time.

I've met Tommy Caldwell. He's thirty years younger than I am. We don't exactly climb in the same circles. I climb with some of  the old farts they keep interviewing on the valley floor.

To give you an idea how hard the stuff they were doing was, if I was climbing the best I ever did in my life, I could have done six or seven of the thirty one  pitches. Most of the rest I wouldn't have had a prayer of doing free.

If you count the last five years, the number drops to five.

This year, one.
