Mike Riley to Nebraska
Who saw this one coming? Many OSU fans haven't been happy with him and were looking for a change, but Riley's contract would never have allowed OSU to fire him.
Now he's heading off to one of the better jobs in College Football. It's a great move for Riley, but quite surprising for Nebraska.
Hopefully Oregon State can land a good coach, but I'm not holding my breath. Is this a win for OSU? I certainly don't think so.

The breaking story:
http://www.sfgate.com/sports/college/article/Oregon-State-s-Mike-Riley-is-Nebraska-s-new-coach-5935117.php
Face it, Pelini acts like a bit of jerk at times....Riley is probably one of the nicest, most respected college coaches in America.

Re: Mike Riley to Nebraska
Several high-profile coach changes going on. Nebraska moved fast, and hired the anti-Pelini. Florida takes PilotRams' coach, and gives them $7M, after they couldn't lure away the Ol' Miss coach. Michigan is looking for their next savior, after they got rid of RichRod and failed with Hoke.
OSU will be interesting to watch. Do they hire a successful coach from a lower level, a retread coach with D1/Power 5 experience, or a hot coordinator with no HC experience?

I suspect the Nebraska AD is a late addition to many Oregonians' Christmas card lists.

I wonder why anyone would move from Wisconsin to Oregon State. Unless of course the writing was on the wall after the drubbing they took in the Big 10 title game.

Re: Mike Riley to Nebraska
Correct answer: none of the above. Floored that OSU could hire a successful Power 5 coach. He must hate the cold winters or something. Wisky has tremendous fan support, sold out stadium, great tradition. OSU, not so much.up7587 wrote:OSU will be interesting to watch. Re: Mike Riley to Nebraska
Wisconsinite tradition is overrated. My old man played for them in the 30's.
In between then and this millennium they had Vanderkellen/Richter and little else.

Maybe he had taken to motorcycle rides with 25 year old female interns?
