...just scored his second goal in a match against Mallorca.

Nothing special, except it was his 76th goal of 2012, putting him one goal post Pele's all time record for goals in a calendar year.

And it is only November.

Early December and Leo cracked the 86 goal barrier over the weekend.

He now has more goals in history than anyone in a calendar year.
Gerd Müller set the previous record 40 years ago at 85.

Still almost three weeks to go...

I wonder, how many games did each of them play in the year?

If you have a few minutes, here's all 86 goals YTD: https://youtu.be/bCL3TvAWu8A.

I thought 68 thru 71 was a particularily nice stretch.

Lionel Messi is great player in all over the world soccer history.I think this player is record break matches play all around world. Forwarding position play in every match and good defending and no 10 shirt players fans is unlimited in whole over the soccer fans list.

Achieving the goals record has been spectacular and C. Ronaldo has been right behind him all season... The only thing left for Messi to do is to prove himself in a World Cup.

I always think that Xavi deserves a bit more credit though...since he is the common link on both of the best teams in the world: Spain and Barcelona. Xavi is the feeder/assist man and Messi is the finisher...

Or is it this financial analyst from Chicago?

Former Northwestern University star striker Matt Eliason, a financial analyst in Chicago, scored a magical bicycle kick goal in a charity soccer match two days ago that was meant to be played by stars of the world’s best teams.

At a charity soccer game organized by Lionel Messi called Messi & Friends; the organizers were left scrambling after many of the high profile players backed out of the game at the last minute. So they turned to former Northwestern University players to fill up the roster, including Eliason, who stole the show with this wonderful goal.

I'm not sure who Leo has a shoe contract with.

He just came off the pitch with Barça leading Real Sociedad 4-1.

He sat down gulping a sport drink, stuck his feet up on the chair in front of him.

The tv panned in on the rattiest shoes I have ever seen on a pro player.

Actually, YES!

These Puma's from the 1960's came in one color, black, but many of us just wore our Riddell (American) football shoes to play soccer in those days.....
