Beautiful day for soccer at Merlo today.....

LMU was one of the odds-on favorites to win the WCC this year (as was the USD squad UP beat on Friday), so this is another big game for the Pilots.

LMU is coming off a 2-1 loss in Spokane.....and that was only five days after blowing-out the other team favored to win the WCC, SCU, 4-0 in LA.

LMU can be very, very good.....the Pilots will have to play much better than they did on Friday if they are to pull off an upset......but it CAN be done!

Well, UP is down 2-0 at the half, but it's still a beautiful day on campus!

Too bad the students are on fall break....

Despite being two men up for 30 minutes, Pilots only score once, and it may have been the ONLY shot on goal in that period.

LMU wins 2-1.

End of game management mysteries continue. how you can be two men up and spend you time  swinging the ball in your own end is beyond me.

to bad about their coaches being missing. they had tosend their diving coach and the drama coach in their stead.

with a minute left, a guy goes down like he had been hacked with a machette, then pops up when he sees a guy further up the field did a better acting job and got a whistle.

It may just be my amateur eyes, but it sure looked to me like the Pilots passed an unusually high amount of their header passes to LMU in the first half. They kept the ball on the ground much better in the second half and nearly got the equalizer twice.
The goal UP scored was a textbook header from a corner kick...I loved it.
