Pac-12 Job Opening Empty Pac-12 Job Opening

Regardless of how much I might yell at the referees for the seemingly wrong calls they make (often vindicated by TV replays), it really came as a bit of surprise when the “esteemed” Ed Rush, former NBA ref and the Pac-12 coordinator of officials, reportedly told a group of referees during the Pac-12 tournament that he’d give them either $5,000 or a trip to Cancun if they hit Arizona coach Sean Miller with a technical foul or ejected him from a game.

Well, Miller did receive a very questionable technical foul during the tournament and was later fined $25,000 for publically disagreeing with the call.

But now Pac-12 coordinator of officials Rush has announced his resignation.....

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott initially stood by Rush. But much like the Rutgers story, this story developed into a hot-button issue and it became clear that Rush continuing in his role wouldn't be practical given that his comments.

Um, the Pac-12 is looking for a new coordinator of officials....we must have a few candidates here on PN. Razz

Did Miller get his $25K back with interest?

I don't want the PAC 12 job.

I want Libby's gig. It had been my dream to supervise the best officials in the NCAA.

From the Arizona Daily Star (edited):
Miller was whistled for a costly technical foul against UCLA, after disputing a turnover call on Mark Lyons with 4:37 left because he believed a UCLA player touched the ball.

The Wildcats ended up losing 66-64 after leading by 11 points in the second half, and Miller vehemently protested after the game without directly blaming officials.

“The reason I got a technical foul is because I said, `He touched the ball. He touched the ball. He touched the ball,’ “Miller said after the game.

Two days after the Arizona-UCLA game, Miller was fined $25,000 by the Pac-12 for confronting an official immediately after the game and for “acting inappropriately” toward a conference staff member later.

While the Pac-12 has responded to reports that Pac-12 coordinator Ed Rush offered inappropriate incentives to officials, “that does not affect Sean Miller's $25,000 fine, a league spokesman said tonight.”
