Men’s Hoops Announces Preliminary WCC TV Schedule

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The University of Portland announced its 2012-13 WCC men’s basketball television schedule on Thursday and the Pilots will have a minimum of 11 of their 16 league games televised live on a national, regional, or local level. In addition to ESPN, Portland will be featured on Time Warner Cable SportsNet, ROOT Sports and BYUtv. Portland’s non-televised contests will be produced at television quality on a digital platform.

Portland will be featured nationally on ESPNU when the BYU Cougars visit the Chiles Center on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The West Coast Conference will have a WCC Game of the Week produced by Time Warner Cable SportsNet and air each Saturday during WCC play. The Pilots will be the featured game of the week three times: versus Pepperdine (Feb. 9), versus Santa Clara (Feb. 23) and at Gonzaga (Mar. 2). The Game of the Week will be distributed to television partners throughout the WCC footprint – up to 20 million homes in all. The games will also be available to WCC fans everywhere on a digitalplatform. Time Warner Cable Sports will also produce a weekly half-hour show dedicated to WCC sports during the men’s basketball season, and will produce selected other WCC events as well.

ROOT Sports will air seven games (including the three WCC Game of the Week broadcasts), while Portland’s game at BYU will be broadcast on BYUtv.

“We are happy to be able to showcase Portland Pilots basketball to such a wide audience in the Pacific Northwest with seven appearances on ROOT SPORTS,” Portland Athletic Director Scott Leykam said. “The WCC is a great basketball conference and the expanded television coverage of our product throughout the country, and specifically all of our key markets on the West Coast, provides us with a great platform to be seen again this season. We also hope to announce additional game coverage by the end of the calendar year."

The West Coast Conference will have 61 of its 72 league games televised live. Fifteen games will be broadcast on the ESPN Networks and an additional 46 games will be aired in the markets of both competing teams through conference and school partnerships with Time Warner Cable Sports, Comcast SportsNet, ROOT Sports and BYUtv – along with the new West Coast Conference Game of the Week.

“With the success our teams have had on the court, the West Coast Conference is proud to boast one of the top men’s basketball television packages in the country,” WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich said. “Fans of top quality basketball throughout the region and the country can look forward to seeing more West Coast Conference basketball than ever before.”

The 61 conference TV appearances for WCC basketball are on top of at least 47 non-conference TV games and five ESPN Networks telecasts from the WCC tournament. All told, the West Coast Conference will have well over 100 televised men’s basketball games during the 2012-13 campaign.
