USA v Ireland: Free UP Pre-Game Gathering at MAC

Post by Stonehouse on Mon Nov 26, 2012 4:43 pm

Hadn't seen this posted yet... the UP alumni office is hosting a pre-game gathering at the MAC prior to the USA/Ireland game on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, November 28 at Jeld-Wen Field, Pilot alumna and Olympic Gold Medalist Megan Rapinoe '08 will take to the pitch in an international friendly match between the U.S. and Ireland.

If you are planning on heading down to Jeld-Wen for the game, please stop by the ballroom at Multnomah Athletic Club at 5:00 p.m. for a pre-game reception for all Pilot fans. Appetizers and soft drinks will be provided, as well as a no-host bar.

Please RSVP to alumni@up.edu so we can make sure we've got enough food for everyone. Contact U.S. Soccer for ticket information.

For those who are planning to view the game in the comfort of a bar or at home, it will be televised on Fox Soccer (400 or 800 in the PDX area); pregame at 6:30/game at 7:00.

the FSU-Penn State game is at 5:30PM Pac on ESPN3. the Stanford-UNC game is at 8:00PM Pac on ESPNU

http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/soccer-women/d1 (click on the teams.) try both networks. I have seen those reversed.

online feeds depend on your carrier, I think. Mine (DirectTV) has both available.

Or you could try here: http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index/_/type/upcoming/startDate/20121130/channel/espn3/ for the Stanford game or http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index/_/id/640233/penn-state-vs-florida-state-semifinal-1 for the FSU game.

In addition to the Stanford-UNC game at 8 on Friday, it is my understanding ESPNU will also carry a tape of the PSU-FSU game at 11 AM on Sunday immediately preceding the College Cup Final on ESPNU at 1 PM.

As Geez said (I think), all three games will be streamed live on ESPN3. Cool

Fun, well played game by USA....I'm sure there will be more posts from those who attended or watched the game on TV...but the future of USA soccer looks good with Sydney Leroux and Alex Morgan together for years to come.

To my relief, and my major take from the pregame show is we CAN understand Glaswegian and new USWNT head coach Tom Sermanni...at times he almost sounded like an Aussie. Surprised

OK. I wondered because I've been reading a few items about Hope on the football forums.

Gridiron football or association football? Actually I guess you'd find her mentioned on both...

Interesting game last night. Ireland was definitely 1-2 notches below the US team. While looking rusty in the first 10-15 minutes, the US athleticism quickly masked a lot of that. Great move by Megan on the baseline. ussoccer.com has the highlights and that move is included. A rainbow by Tobin Heath, don't see that move often. Neither US goalie got tested very much aside from a couple of moments in the 2nd half. And it didn't rain that much. Smile

It will be interesting to see if Keelin is part of the team the next time the US team plays in Portland.

SOAP OPERA

With her husband in jail, fans there for Hope Solo....reads the headline in USA Today.
PORTLAND, Ore. — Hope Solo didn’t have to make a save Wednesday in the U.S. women’s national soccer team’s international friendly against Ireland, but her presence was felt throughout the crowd of 10,902 at Jeld-Wen Field.

Solo got some of the biggest cheers during pregame introductions, rivaled only by Abby Wambach and local favorite Megan Rapinoe, who starred collegiately at the University of Portland. She also was the lone player whose name appeared on the promotional cheer cards spread throughout the stands. One side had the words “GO USA!,” and the flip side read, “HOPE SAVES.”

At the same time the national team was defeating the Irish 5-0 — the match included a first-half hat trick by striker Alex Morgan and two record-setting second-half goals by reserve Sydney Leroux — Solo’s new husband, former NFL tight end Jerramy Stevens, was in jail in Tampa after his arrest Wednesday by Florida authorities for violating probation.

Stevens’ probation violation was a result of his recent arrest on domestic abuse charges in Washington state, Ann Howard, director of communications at the Florida Department of Corrections, told USA TODAY Sports. Stevens had permission to travel to Washington, Howard said.

“I believe this is improper,” Stevens’ attorney, Mark O’Brien, told USA TODAY Sports. “A judge in Washington — after he had a full hearing in which the state of Washington called witnesses, including a law enforcement official — found no probable cause (for Stevens’ arrest).”
If you really want to read more, it’s all right here:

Oh brother. Rolling Eyes

Well, when it's the soccer equivalent of a guarantee/body bag game (see UP basketball vs Kentucky) you have to have something to write about.
