Pilots grind out a 1-0 win over USF tonight. Grubisich with the goal; he flicked in a cross that came in from a short corner. Justin Baarts had a fine game in goal. USF put up a ton of shots and at one point had four corners in a row. Top of the league baby!

Baarts was great in the goal. It wasn't just the 6 saves. Any time a team has 13 corners and doesn't score, the keeper has got to be doing well. He was punching balls out of the goal area repeatedly.

Hugo Rhoads also had a very good game.

Yes, good game out of Hugo, a lot of the younger guys look like they can play a little.

Justin Baarts was clearly the Man of the Match! As mentioned by UPSF, he was all over the place punching the ball, directing traffic, and executing strong and accurate kicks.

Ha ha, the ref was annoyed with Justin for slowing the game down and taking time off the clock towards the end, but I liked Baarts’ leadership and savvy.

I thought for a moment I was at a Winterhawks game with the shot by Colin Anderson and the redirect by Keith Grubisich for the winning goal. I actually couldn't tell who the redirect came from.....had to look at the box score.

Good start....now USD and LMU on the road.

But seriously, if USSF and MLS aren't at least looking at Richard Heron they must not care about getting quality match officials in the USA's top flight.

Baarts punched so many balls out I wasn't sure Bigs had ever told him he could catch it. But it got the job done. UP was getting beat to a lot of headers on the corner kicks.

Richard Heron retired from MLS in 2008 after 13 years. He doesn't have the pace to do the pros anymore, but he impressed the last time he was here a couple years ago when USF was here and he did a good job tonight.

Watched the game on the webcast and was impressed with how confident the team looked.

The ref was just as impressive, if only he could give pointers to some of the not so impressive officials we have seen on the Merlo pitch.

Or assess the MLS guys I saw tonight. It has to actually touch the hand to be handball (and a penalty) and that seriously was the least of it.
