Just wondering how are the officials picked for each game?

They are picked by an assignor for each conference. In the case of the WCC, it is the same assignor that the PAC12 uses, Sandra Hunt.

The ref assignments are usually done in the spring, I'm told.

Those of you older fans may remember her as a FIFA official during the 90's and early 2000's who officiated a couple of world cups and eventually became a FIFA director of officials. She has also done some of the classic games in UP history, including the 2002 Santa Clara championship game

She is one of the best 2 or three refs Merlo field has ever seen.


She is also, I think, one of the four regional assignors for the NCAA tournament. As such, she will most likely be the person who determines the officials for the College Cup in San Diego this year.

Thanks for the explanation. She hasn't been doing the teams playing at Merlo any favors this season.
