Re: Did someone say today is first day spring signing period?

I saw Amadi Udenyi play earlier in the year at De La Salle in Concord, and liked what I saw enough to drop Rev an email about him using some "Orange Express" recruiting comments:

Amadi Udenyi is a smart and tough PG prospect who needs to work on his mid-range game, can sink the trey, can dish with consistency and can shut down the opponent’s best back court player. He should transition easily into a program which runs the back door offense since he’s been successfully leading his team in that very scheme. But he also wants to go where they get out and run when they get the chances.

Anyone know of a school which fits that mold?

This is what his AAU coach Phil Handy had to say about Amadi and his recruitment:

He is an extremely hard working kid on and off the court. He fully understands his potential and puts in a lot of time trying to improve daily. I see him as a mid-low major D1 talent. He is getting looks from American, Columbia, Pepperdine, Portland, USF, Princeton, Yale, Navy and a few other west coast schools. I believe he could play in the Pac-12!
As DTLegend said, "it probably has little to no actual value, but it's always fun to speculate right?"

I watched a few DLS games this year and saw Amadi play.
Very strong and quick, plays with very good control, and shoots well.
DLS palys a very successful and disciplined scheme which does not always showplace some players skills.
This is the school and coach Ethan Niedermeyer ( UP), John Macarthur (Santa Clara) and Beua Levesque (St Mary's) played for.
Also, two current players on Cal Berkeley, and in recent years players on UC Santa Barbara, Princenton, Cal, UC Davis.

Smile Well, there he goes again, making us get excited -- Rev's Tweet this morning:
Telling myself I wouldn,t even except a complimentary upgrade on flight to Dallas because it will make me soft for flight to Spain
(I'm sure the Stanford grad meant to say "accept", but it's not easy to tweet on the run at 6 in the morning!)

I read that Mark Few is flying to Poland to secure an LOI from a center--it's posted on the Don's board. If Few can fly to Poland to secure an LOI, our coach can well fly to Spain to do the same.

This appears to be Rev's second documented--via tweets-- trip to Spain, thus the likelihood of securing an LOI might be higher with each successive trip.

I am interested to know whether his connection with the Canarias Basketball Academy will play a part. If so, obviously we would be signing two players in two years from there: nice connection for Rev and the Pilots.

2011 CBA graduate Thomas Van De Mars goes for 19 points, and 7 rebounds in 30 minutes for the Portland Pirates.

ARRRR, Guess we aren't as well known with those guys as we think.

Perris Blackwell, transferring from USF, is about to sign with the Washington Huskies. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

And now it's official. Blackwell, one of six USF players who is transferring, is going to UW. He has to sit out the coming season.

I've reported on other USF and WCC players under the thread "Zags Player to Transfer" in the West Coast Conference section, and will continue to post there as I hear of transfers involving the WCC.

So, does he have to sit out a year or not? Good luck to him across town. If you are that big of a fan you will probably get to see him in the Chiles Center again next year or the year after!

I took a look at PSU's guard situation in the Tim Douglas thread, working on the assumption he does have to sit.

Bad deal. If he does well for a rival, it will be rubbing salt in a wound. If he does not do well, we have to see the failures of a kid we all liked.

My advice, don't take any trips to Mexico with a new teammate.

Well if you are talking about Dominguez... It wasn't so much as losing a player, as eliminating a player who was an academic liability. Tim is a completely different story in that regard.

Maybe it is just my perception but I find it odd that out of the relatively few transfers out of the program a very high percentage seem to land at PSU. In addition to Jeremiah Dominguez we can add Jamie Jones, Alex Tiefenthaler and now Tim Douglas. Am I forgetting anyone else? I wonder what the draw is that makes PSU such a popular destination. Sure, the argument can be made that Dominguez is from Salem and wanted to stay near his home but the others are from out of state and I would think especially in Jones and Douglas's cases would have a number of opportunities to choose from.

One big reason - they all know each other very, very well from balling together all summer long. Also, PSU tends to be a little lazy at recruiting (my opinion), has taken a number of transfers, and usually has an opening or two.

Maybe Rev should take a page out of the old Bo Ryan "Book for Releasing Possible Transfers"
