As talented as Tim was, he really might not have earned the spot this past season. As the other posters have noted, he didn´t have that competitive spark that he had during his Freshman year that had made him nearly impossible to keep off of the floor. Where was the player who lit up Portland State and won player of the week two times? Where was the player who helped us to upset Saint Mary´s in the previous season? Neither Nem nor Tim played as well as I would have liked in the past season.
Sometimes coaches bench players as a motivational move. If a player doesn´t respond, that says more about the player than the coach...

Re: Douglas
Naw, it would be way too confusing to have another Bailey.
Jordan Bailey was never really recruited hard by UP when he was at Beaverton High even though he was highly regarded by some scouts (academics?) I know before signing with Iowa State he was strongly considering St. Mary's.
I also know he had a couple of skirmishes with the law while in Iowa, while not disqualifying, it would be a departure from the norm for Rev. Wherever he goes, he' have to sit out a year and start as a junior -- I do NOT think that is a fit for UP!!

Re: Douglas
His name is Railey . . .though it rhymes, he prefers that the distinction be noted for posterity, so I assume.
If true that he had "skirmishes" with the law, I would agree that he may not be a player we want.

The rules are hard to unravel, but doesn't this say basketball players must sit out a year even with a release?
If this is your first transfer…
If you have never transferred before from a four-year school, you might be able to use the one-time transfer exception to play right away at a Division I or II school.
To use this exception, you must:
1. Be playing a sport other than baseball in Division I, basketball in Division I, men's ice hockey in Division I or football in Division I. Note: In football you may be eligible to use this exception if:
a. You transfer from a Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) school to a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) school and have at least two seasons of competition remaining; or
b. You transfer from a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) school that offers athletics scholarships to a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) that does not offer athletics scholarships.
Important Note: If you do not qualify for this exception due to any of the conditions in Subsection 1 above, you may be able to use the exception if you were not recruited by your first four-year school AND have never received an athletics scholarship.
2. Be in good academic standing and making progress toward your degree;
3. Have been considered academically eligible if you had stayed in your first school; and
4. Have a written release agreement from your first school saying that it does not object to your receiving an exception to the transfer residence requirement.

Yup, you are right. I forgot about the different rules concerning the one time exception.
He has to sit or move to another NCAA division.

I don't believe that old cliche that good things come to those who wait. I think good things come to those who want something so bad they can't sit still.

Y'all need to pick up a copy of the Beacon -- or see this link: http://issuu.com/thebeacon_univ_of_portland/docs/the_beacon_-_march_29_-_issue_21_real?mode=window&viewMode=doublePage
There is a nice little bit in the Sports section on Douglas' decision.

Umm, I don't recall Tim backing up T.J., but just like at PN, if it's written, it has got to be true!
