Tough Schedule

Looks like our non-conference schedule is going to be really rough. After a couple Pac-12 beat downs, coming up we have games against Kentucky, St. Louis, Boise State, and Utah. Let's see, that would be #2 Kentucky, who already beat Kansas, Penn St. and Old Dominion. And undefeated St. Louis, who just hammered the UW Huskies, and we know what they did to us. Boise St. is also undefeated. Utah has lost two, but is always tough in SLC. Oh yeah, next though is UC Santa Barbara, who has an impressive 33 point win over Santa Clara. Throw in Ohio (3-0, beat Lamar), Montana (3-1, beat USD) and Nevada (2-2, beat Pacific). Six of the next nine games are on the road. I fear that our frosh-soph dominated team is going to be "learning" quite a bit over the next month.

Tough turnaround; the men left for Santa Barbara this morning.

Pomeroy has UP rated at 157 and UCSB at 77; predicting a 72-63 win for UCSB.

Pomeroy also predicts the men will only win two road games this year: San Diego and Pepperdine.

No sense going over our dismal statistics this early in the season as the Frosh/Sophomore team will need the preseason to “jell” before WCC action.

We started 3 sophomores and a freshman last night. Even though we may not win many games in the preseason, it should help prepare us for WCC play. I have a feeling we might even surprise a team or two.

I think we should just enjoy the new athleticism and enjoy the ride as we move into the season again. Our 2 victories should give us some optimism. Florida Atlantic did well last season, and honestly, I'm surprised that we've beat them 2 seasons in a row. I'm a little bit surprised that St. Louis was able to beat the Huskies...didn't we beat St. Louis one season ago (even if we did have a more veteran team?).

I like our chances against Boise St., UCSB, Montana, Nevada, and St. Louis. Washington and WSU have a different level of recruits than most mid-major programs. If we can play WSU within 10 points, we can handle these other programs. Keep in mind that they also have to deal with our athleticism and optimism in a year when we have lowered expectations. We've got enough athleticism that teams will fear playing us even if we don't always deliver the desired result. I like that...

Thanks. I'm really excited to just see the guys play and grow together. As long as we win enough games that none of our touted recruits transfer, we're really going to reap the benefits by the time K. Bailey is a junior. I'm going to enjoy every year he's in a Pilot's uniform because we really haven't had a lot of recruits who experts said may have future pro potential before they put on a Pilots uniform.
