Thanks for finally getting us some details. We were wondering when youall were going to wake up and tell us what happened!!!
Question: did Erin place the ball after her kick or was she doing that for each OSU player or ??
GO PILOTS!!!

She was spotting the balls after their kicks and when they went to the spot she did, too. Then she could be seen gesticulating with the opposing player and the ref making sure the letter of the laws were followed.
The ref had his yellow card in his hand writing results on it, and at one point he waved her away with it and for a second I thought he was giving her a caution, but he wasn't.
It was pretty mucky around the spot, I think, so it probably matted a bit where the ball was placed.
Btw, the underclassmen and the defenders who took their shots did it with cleanly and with confidence. Dani's miss notwithstanding, they did a great job.
OSU' best shooter missed also.

Re: Pilots WIN! 7-6 on PK's!
Really, there were several players who didn't start who made a big difference. Loriel was another player who made a difference.
But yeah, Amanda's fresh energy was a help in keeping the other attackers fresh for OT as well as actually resulting in a goal.
One reason for the increased energy is that the team became a little less cautious when we got down a goal, and that abandon really put a lot of pressure on them. It also nearly resulted in a second goal for them, if not for two good saves from Hailee. If we had more healthy bodies, we could do that all game, maybe, but as it is we have to pick our spots more, goading opponents into mistakes before we push hard.

It doesn't seem likely that there will be any changes to the starting lineup. The substitution patterns might change based on game conditions.
BTW the long range forecast for Tallahassee on Friday is partly cloudy with a high of 72 and low of 50 for those of you planning on going to the game.

There is a caveat to flying you all to the game. I have to win the lottery tonight. If I don't win I'm only treating you all to Gametracker.

Re: Pilots WIN! 7-6 on PK's!
A couple of comments about the game:
There was an all out war on the field, the entire game, between Cloee and Chelsea Buckland. It appeared to me that Cloee had the assignment to man mark her, and the physical battle between the two of them was a joy to watch. After the game, as Cloee was walking to the locker room, we had a chance to chat with her, and we commented on that battle. She said it was really fun. She also thanked us about four times for coming down to see the game.
I think Ellen Parker had a brilliant game, both in controlling the ball and in delivering passes. A ton of work went into her controlling, holding through several challenges, and delivering the ball that went to Amanda for her goal.
I think the move of having Erin be the keeper for the PKs was great coaching. With no offense to Hailee, who played a very good game, I think if she had gone out to be the keeper, it would have been hard for the players not to have last year in the backs of their minds. Having Erin out there completely changed the equation.
I think Dani's PK woes are over. Somehow, I think the team prevailing in PKs even though she missed will change the pressure dynamic.

Re: Pilots WIN! 7-6 on PK's!
Fun trip down to Corvallis last night. I thought Cloee played a great game; far more aggressive than in the past. Now if that attitude can just rub off on the midfield...
I'm confused about substitution rules. I thought for the PKs you had to go with the players on the field at the end of the game; but clearly substitutions were made. What is the substitution rule for the PKs... actually what is the substitution rule in general? Seems like players rotate in and out without limit.

Re: Pilots WIN! 7-6 on PK's!
My understanding is that at the college level you can substitute freely throughout the game, and setting up for PKs.
I was at the game last night, and I'd say the split was close to 50/50. It was fun trying to out cheer the opposing fans "Go! Pilots/Beavers!". The OSU fans seemed surprised by the foul count, though I would say it was accurate and could have seen some cards.
While it was disappointing to see Dani miss her PK, she did set up the Pilot's goal with a very scrappy tackle in the Beaver's final third, winning the ball for UP and passing to Parker.

The substitution rules are pretty simple. If you are substituted in the first half, you have to wait until the second half to come back in.
If you are substituted in the second, you can have one re-entry in the second half. The overtimes don't allow a re-entry for the purposes of substitution.
An exception if you are injured due to a foul. In that case, you can re-enter and it doesn't count, and for the purposes of substitution, the person who came in for you isn't credited with a counting entry unless they stay in the game when you come back in.
Any 10 players can participate in the shootout. The most famous case case for UP was Coleen Salisbury, a lefty, who Clive had come in against #1 Stanford in the 2002 quarterfinal shootout and she made her shot against Nicole Barnhart that propelled UP towards the Championship, and the shootout in the 2005 semis where Garrett put her in in and she made her shot against #2 Penn State's Erin McCloud that put UP in the finals.
Coleen didn't play in either game before the shootouts.
Garrett had two lefties take shots in the shootout this time, and I think in made a difference.

Re: Pilots WIN! 7-6 on PK's!
Cloee was awesome on Buckland! She managed to get a foot on nearly every ball and played her usual physical game. She plays with such confidence, focus and determination. I liked Kaila Cameli. She caused problems with her speed. I didn't like when she was taken out. I also thought Rebekah had a good game.
And as previously mentioned, OSU was very physical and committed a lot of fouls, some of which weren't called. But I thought the Pilots did better at giving it right back. This team has improved greatly from the beginning of the season. They still sometimes don't anticipate and get beaten to balls, but they are getting better.

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned that Dees saved a penalty against St. Mary's. That was the first thing I thought of when I heard she came in.

I didn't win the lottery so you are all on your own for plane tickets to Memphis. Oh, what the heck, I'll buy another ticket for Wednesday.
