Friday's game obviously is a very big one, and one I think a lot of us are very interested and curious to see. I'm going to be rooting as hard as I can, to help the Pilots get back to the 0.500 percent mark and go on from there.

Here's San Diego's record so far this year:

8/19/2011 SanDiegoU 2 MissouriU 1
8/21/2011 SanDiegoU 3 USC 1
8/26/2011 SanDiegoU 4 Pacific 0
8/28/2011 SanDiegoU 1 KansasU 2
9/2/2011 SanDiegoU 2 AlabamaU 0
9/4/2011 SanDiegoU 0 UCF 1
9/9/2011 SanDiegoU 2 TexasU 1
9/11/2011 SanDiegoU 1 OklahomaState 2
9/16/2011 SanDiegoU 0 LongBeachState 1
9/22/2011 SanDiegoU 0 CalStateFullerton 2
9/25/2011 SanDiegoU 2 UCIrvine 3
10/6/2011 SanDiegoU 0 Pepperdine 1
10/9/2011 SanDiegoU 3 SanFrancisco 0

With a 6-7 record, it looks like San Diego is struggling too. In RPI strength of schedule terms (which are not necessarily the best measure of SoS), the Pilots have played the 11th toughest schedule this year and San Diego the 22nd.

GO PILOTS!

Pilots are calling this Pink Weekend. Anyone ready to "man up?" I can wear pink tonight, but if Villa Drum Squad takes my challenge, I may not be able to do so on Sunday.

Anyone know the status of Kassi and Cloee? Would be a real lift if they can play.

At Merlo ... Kassi tells my daughter she is out for the season. Insert sad face here.

Imagine this team a building – a building that has been shaken loose from its foundation. Somehow, someone needs to stabilize it to prevent additional, irreparable damage.

And I don’t think additional intense training sessions are the fix. These girls play like they are worn out and worn down.

There is no way they should have lost to USD, injuries or no injuries. Something has to change if this season is to be saved.

A member of the faculty told me tonight that Garrett is feeling the same way about the necessity of something having to change. He also told me that the player considered the top recruit for next year withdrew her commitment today. He didn't remember the name. Not a good sign.

Too bad about Kassi. She brought a lot of life to the game but her sister appears to have some good skills.

The first conference loss on Merlo pitch since we lost 0-1 to Santa Clara in the 2002 championship season, and now USD joins SCU as the only two WCC teams to have won more than one game on the pitch. I guess you can call it history.

I don't agree just being worn down is what lost this game. We showed much more aggression than against BYU and were much quicker challenging. It again seems like there were too me any mistakes born of the revolving door of injuries and inexperience. We had two more key players leave the game and not return. I don't think you can ignore that on an already bare bench.

There were some good individual efforts, but not much consistency. I actually thought we put USD on their heels for long parts of the game, but paid for mistakes.

As to saving the season? Too broad a concept. You play games, not seasons. Just worry about putting a complete effort in for the next game.

Geez, you are correct about the injuries to key players. Its hard to launch a consistant offensive attack with so many holes in the line up. Just look what happened with the San Francisco Giants this season - try as they may they just couldn't put enough good stuff together on the field to score runs.

Having a good recruit decommit? That and Cloee's apparent injury proneness - not good.

And speaking of top talent - I hope none of the current top talent on this team decide to pull a Charney and leave for greener soccer pastures. It may be awhile before one sees this thing get turned around. Just getting play time isn't enough for some of these players. They have the National Team as their goal and playing on a team ranked in the 50's dims that vision.

Let's hope Garrett can pull off some magic. But I don't think more hard PT sessions is necessarily the answer. He is going to have to get more creative than that to turn this team around. These girls need to study too, and that's damn hard if you are worn out all the time.

Pilots v San Diego 10/14 Empty Injuries last night

Post by Harry Redknapp Sat Oct 15, 2011 7:54 am

To clarify one thing for those of you not at the game, Pilots began the game with only four fit outfield subs. Then Halley was hit in the head by a SD player and stayed down for a very long time before leaving the game with a heavy dressing on the back of her head. The SD player got a yellow card for the challenge, which looked bad from the sidelines. Halley was done for the night and was not even on the sidelines for the rest of the game.

In the secnd half Taylor got hit on the head and after treatment walked off the field but was visibly wobbly and had to be held up by the medic. That was the end of her.

Late in the game Kaila Camelli was bloodied and came out not to return - although in this case that was probably more a coach's decision.

I also heard that Kassi is finished for the year - she hurt her back again.

Nothing is going right for this team. But it's not for lack of effort - they put their bodies on the line yesterday.

Sad face. Can't believe the bad luck the girls are having with so many more injuries this game.

I actually thought we looked better in the lost Friday than the win Sunday.

We did a great job moving to the ball and challenging in the open field.
Without big McKluskie and Brooke who was playing D the back line was very weak.

I was surprised to see Kraminski play on Sunday after the hit she took Friday.
