Memory lane Empty Memory lane

So I was looking up the Linclon-Central Catholic Girl's 6A game to see who won (Lincoln in a shootout).

While I was doing that, I came across a list of the 5A all-star team and it had the name Amanda Dutra from Sherwood.
Naturally, I wondered if she was related to Jody Dutra, former Pilot forward.

I never found out, but I did find this link to the Playoffs the year UP met Notre Dame in the finals.

Follow the links for Portland. some great names will stare you in the face.

This team registered 16 shutouts. Anybody remember all the defenders besides Erin Fahey?

Geezer, I have no idea if Amanda is related to Jody or not. I never thought to ask, but I can certainly ask around and find out if you like. Incidentally, Amanda will be going to Portland State, so UP fans might see her over the next few years.

As for the Pilot defense in '95, I remember that game and it was utterly heartbreaking. I was in high school still and I remember that team as being so spirited and full of fight, and how unfair that last play was. Fahey was a total stud, and (along with Voiland) was model for all Pilot keepers to follow. Portland still played a 3-5-2 back then, and I believe the backs were: Eaton, Sharpe, and Ribaudo. That same group of defenders was also responsible for fewest goals allowed in in a season, in 1997 (though Sarah Charles started at center-back because Tia was red-shirting). Quite a defensive juggernaut, those girls.

For trivia bonus points, in the middle were Baumgardt, Engesser, and Pierce. Frenchie ran the flanks with either Stiles or Schierman (I can't remember, they both played so much), and McIntosh and MacMillan rounded out the attack up top. Off the bench (besides Stiles or Schierman) was Johnson, Charles, Dutra, O'Neill, and Pfiefer (though I think she was out with a torn ACL -- I seem to remember watching her on TV jumping around the sidelines on crutches).

Great question!

It seems that Stiles was starting in the playoffs, but had not started much during the regular season. It was a line-up change early in the playoffs.

As I recall Pfiefer was a speed merchant who would just kick the ball ahead and streak by whoever was the defender on her side.
