The Greatest Intramural Athletes in UP History

This is a fun topic for anyone who went to UP and, frankly, if you didn't go to UP then why the heck are you on the Pilot Nation website? In fact, if you didn't go to UP and you're looking at this site then you are a LOSER!

Best intramural football game? Lasted three days and multiple OTs - called once on the count of illegal cleats and once on the count of darkness.

Kessey (Kessi?) was/is a total stud. I'd sometimes stumble across him playing intramurals and be wowed by his greatness. I voted for him for ASUP Pres. Was was his slogan? Pencil in Pat? I can't remember.

Rochin, I believe that football game was actually won twice, the first time by about 20 (Illegal cleats nullified that victory) then the second time in OT on a Stupey pick six.

Really, I think the greatest intramural team ever was the Liquid Refreshments... no one ran the half-time weave quite like us!

A future great intramural athlete?

I’m guessing the quality of student attending UP these days is pretty high:

This morning I received an email from an acquaintance telling me his granddaughter was both excited and lucky to be attending UP in the fall after graduating from Billings (MT) Central Catholic High School in June.

As a UP grad, I thought that was pretty cool, but when I read of her achievements, I knew we UP backers are the lucky ones to have attracted and snagged such an active and qualified individual.

It turns out my friends granddaughter is salutatorian, summa cum laude, and a member of the National Honor Society. She lettered in volleyball (all-state), basketball (first team all-conference), and tennis (first team all-conference) and is an academic all-state for all three sports!

She has turned down academic scholarships from Carroll College, Seattle Pacific University, Linfield College, and Gonzaga University to attend UP on a Presidential Scholarship and NAIFA Scholarship.

My acquaintance didn’t tell me if she planned to play in any intercollegiate sports at UP, but even if she doesn’t, I'd love to have her in my study hall and on my intramural team(s)!

Sure, apparently as long as you're taking classes, you still have eligibility.

BTW - here are some interesting statistics sent to me about Billings Central Catholic High School Class of 2012:

Students accepted into a college or university - 98.7 percent.
Students enlisting in the armed forces - 3.9 percent.
Students who have received scholarships - 65 percent

I don't know what the enrollment is at Central, but those are mighty fine stats compared to the charter and public schools I've been associated with recently.

We had a quarterback who was really into intentional grounding. After the third grounding in a game we pulled that old playground trick where we went back into the huddle, had one guy kneel down behind him and two other guys push him while he was calling the next play. I think Jake might have figured out that there was no place for intentional grounding in intramurals after that.

Never in a million years did I ever think that Central High School in Billings Montana would be conversed on this board. As a Billings native, I can say that Central is a good school, while I am a product of the Billings Public School System, I have a lot of good friends who went to central. But it is always nice to see that pipeline from Billings to Portland continue.

As far as tops intramural player, in my time it had to be Shane Moser. Yeah the same Shane Moser who was a walk on basketball player. He was multiple times more athletic than the next guy, that kid is a freak. And I'm pretty sure that JV Allstars is the best flag football team of all time.

Better than the Nads?

The Hawaiians intramural basketball team in the mid-late 60's scrimmaged the varsity (not the greatest of UP squads, but OK) and held their own. John Tejada, Ants Guerrero, Del Haner, the late great Chuck Dempsey, and various supporting cast members.

Also, the Los Pecadores intramural football team featuring the Rados brothers (Bob and Greg) could handle most any flag competition.
