FSU had their exhibition with Texas.
Aug. 14, 2011
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Texas Longhorns dropped a 2-1 decision to the No. 5 Florida State Seminoles in an exhibition match at the Seminole Soccer Complex on Sunday evening
With the Longhorns’ trailing 1-0, Taylor Knaack threaded a pass between a pair of defenders to a sprinting Hannah Higgins. After receiving the thru ball, Higgins had a one-on-one vs. the keeper and beat her from 16 yards out with a shot inside the left post. The equalizer came with 26:34 on the clock.
The match appeared headed to overtime before the Seminoles tallied the game-winner with 9:22 remaining. Kristin Grubka delivered a cross that was deflected by UT goalkeeper Ava Vogel, but Janice Cayman collected the carom and put it in the goal for the go-ahead score.
Florida State drew first blood midway through the first half. Tiana Brockway sent a corner kick into the penalty box. Tori Huster collected the offering and sent it goalward where Kassey Kallman deflected it into the back of the net, giving the Seminoles a 2-1 lead in the 25th minute of play.
Vogel made seven saves for the Longhorns, going the distance in net. Kelsey Wys made two saves for Florida State in 90 minutes of action.
Florida State held advantages in shots, 21-11, and corner kicks, 9-3.
Texas opens up regular-season action on Friday when the Longhorns host the Loyola Marymount Lions in a 7 p.m. contest at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Re: UP v. Florida State
Some notes from FSU's Game Notes write up. Looks like a great challenge coming to Merlo field.
"WHO’S BACK AND WHO’S NOT IN 2011
BACK...
• The Seminoles return nine starters and 14 letterwinners from last year’s squad that advanced to the quarterfi nals of the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive year and for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.
• FSU returns its top three scorers from last year including Janice Cayman (23 points), Tori Huster (19) and Casey Short (13), while Tiffany McCarty and Jessica Price, one of the most prolific scoring duos to take the field under the direction of head coach Mark Krikorian, return to the pitch after missing the entire 2010 campaign due to injuries.
• Of the 14 letterwinners returning for the Seminoles in 2011, each has made at least one career start. Nine started at least 18 or more games a season ago, while Janice Cayman (22), Kassey Kallman (22), Toni Pressley (22), Casey Short (22), Kelsey Wys (22), Tori Huster (21) and Tiana Brockway (20) started every game they played in 2010.
• Florida State returns 71.5 percent (93 of the 130 points) of its total scoring from last year including four student-athletes who registered double-digit points and five who recorded a game-winning goal.
• When it comes to depth, look no further than the Seminole defense where the Garnet and Gold return fi ve student-athletes (Tiana Brockway, Ines Jaurena, Kassey Kallman, Toni Pressley and Ella Stephan) with tremendous playing experience in the backline including all four starters from 2010. Pressley and Kallman lead the way after All-America campaigns a season ago.
GONE...
• The Florida State midfield will look a little different in 2011 without the services of four-time All-ACC honoree and four-year starter Amanda DaCosta and three-year starter Rachel Lim.
• Between DaCosta and Lim, the two combined for 37 starts a season ago tallying 10 points each.
• DaCosta made school history as the first, four-time All-ACC honoree in school history earing first team honors in 2008 and 2010 and second team accolades in 2007 and 2009.

Re: UP v. Florida State
Sunday will be interesting. FSU appears to have a lot more of its team returning, and will have the (presumed) advantage of having already played a "real" game against the Beavers on Friday. Is anyone going down to Corvallis for that one?

I'm heading down...
I think you have to weigh the advantage FSU will have of having a real game under their belts with the disadvantage that they will be playing with one day's rest. They have a lot of players, so they might be able to manage that OK.
Hopefully OSU will give them a test

Are there fireworks this game?
Anyone want to make an attendance prediction? Might be sparse with classes not in session yet.

I'm not expecting fireworks since there are no new freshmen to "wow" yet.

Re: UP v. Florida State
The OSU-FSU game will be interesting. OSU returns 10 starters from last year and has a great defense. They are physical, similar to the UW Huskies, but they also have some speed in their front line. the OSU-FSU game looks like it could be a strong defense vs. a strong offense.
While I'm somewhat biased about the Beavers, my opinion is a lot of people are somewhat overlooking them. This is not the team from 3-4 years ago, this is a veteran team that is capable of taking it to everyone on their schedule. My prediction is September 11 will go a long way to determining if a regional is potentially in Portland or in Corvallis.

A reminder...
There is no admission if you are going down to the USU-FSU game.
They are asking for a donation of canned food for Community Outreach.

Halftime at the OSU -FSU game.
Traffic was bad, so we got here partway through the half.
What we saw looks pretty even.
FSU didn't play Mscarty and Pressley in the first half. They are lined up for the start of the second, though.

About seven minutes into the second half, FSU's Macarty scores 1-0
Mucking around in the six yard box and sinker it in after a free kick.
Right after that OSU had a chance but didn't convert.
