Canada's run at the Cup

Post by PurpleGeezer on Sun Jun 19, 2011 9:21 am

Team Canada starts it's run. I think they will do well this time.

The WWC is in Canada in four years...

The calgary Herald weighs in with an article on Chistine(and a nice picture of her and Sophie), and on Canada's chances in the Cup (courtesy PortlandPilots.com)

Interesting analysis of the team's new style of play considering the quote I'm currently using from the Pelerud days.

Looks like they're in a tough group, though.

I don't know...
If they beat Germany they have the easiest run and won't have to face Brazil or the USA until the finals.

We and Brazil have middling runs, Norway gets shafted. To win it all, they have to beat the winner of Canada/Germany - and Brazil, and the USA.

Paula the octopus predicts that Canada will beat Germany in the first game of the WWC.

No truth to the rumor that Germany fans are petitioning that Paula follow the Artest example and get a name change to Sushi world food.

Well, they didn't get the upset, but the goal helped them stay up in the group if they can get past France next.

Re: Canada's run at the Cup

I find the comparisons of Christine with Abby Wambach shallow and annoying. Today Julie Fouty listed her five best players in the world and had AW at #3 and did not include Christine. Please!

Christine has 110+ goals for Canada and the next highest among current players is 13. Neither of the two players alongside her today are remotely in the same class. If they switched teams, and Christine played for the US and Abby for Canada, I'm convinced that Christine would substantially outscore her.

And yes, I know CS did fail to hit the target with a good chance early on but I stand by my assertions.

Loved the crunching tackles from Sophie today. She was a force in midfield.

Well, Foudy can't be called objective like we are.

For those of you keeping score, Wambach has 118 international goals

With today's game, Christine has 117

Seeing Christine and Sophie working together over that last free kick was one of favorite moments today! ... Go Pilots! Very Happy

Of course...when Christine's blast bent over the wall and zero'd into the corner...I went nuts! She definitely did NOT hit it with her purse that time! It was world class...a beautiful and spectacular goal! One of her best of all time I think?
