Carles Puyol taken up in the rapture?

Post by Geezaldinho on Wed May 25, 2011 5:33 am

It's the only reason I can see that he was left off Spain's roster for June 4.

More than 54,000 tickets have been sold for the match against No.1-ranked Spain (tickets). Kickoff at Gillette Stadium is set for 4:30 p.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN and Univision. Fans can follow the match live on ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker and on Twitter @ussoccer.

SPAIN ROSTER BY POSITION
GOALKEEPERS (3): Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), José Manuel Reina (Liverpool), Víctor Valdés (Barcelona)
DEFENDERS (7): Álvaro Arbeloa (Real Madrid), Raúl Albiol (Real Madrid), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Gerard Piqué (Barcelona), Carlos Marchena (Villarreal), Joan Capdevila (Villarreal), Andoni Iraola (Athletic Bilbao)
MIDFIELDERS (6): Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid), Sergio Busquets (Barcelona), Santiago Cazorla (Villarreal), Andrés Iniesta (Barcelona), Bruno Soriano (Villarreal), Borja Valero (Villarreal)
FORWARDS (7): David Villa (Barcelona), David Silva (Manchester City), Fernando Llorente (Athletic Bilbao), Fernando Torres (Chelsea), Pedro Rodríguez (Barcelona), Manu Del Moral (Sevilla), Álvaro Negredo (Sevilla)

But Xavi and Cesc Fabregast are off, too, so maybe this is their "B" team.

Well, he does have a game on May 28th, and I found this report:
Injury news
• Puyol is fit but has been plagued by the knee and hamstring problems since January and last played on 3 May.
So maybe he'll be resting.

Puyol, Xavi, and Cesc. Three Barca players and they're in the Champions League Final on Saturday. Makes sense.

Well, two of them are in the Final. The third...ah...is not available for Barca just yet...

The champion's League final is BEFORE the USA friendly.

Puyol has been sitting out a bunch of games the last month or so, the Champs League final is probably a bit more worthy of risking re-injury than a friendly...

They got Abidal back for the game too (he had surgery to remove pancreatic growths a month and a half ago) so needing Puyol back was a little less urgent, but i strongly doubt he will play in the friendly.
