The Pilots continued their successful development of a new formation with a relatively comfortable 2-0 win over the Cougars today.

Starting line up in the now familiar 4-1-2-3 set up was:

HaileeDY; SarahB, EmmaN, MichelleO, KendallJ; CloeeC; Taylorb, DanielleF; HallieK, MicaelaC, AmandaF.

Dani continued her spring scoring renaissance with the first goal from Micaela feed. 1-0 at half time. NicholeD replaced Hailee at the break as Garrett continues the 45 minute rotation of the three GKs.

MollyK replaced MO in the middle of the second half. Hallie scored the second off a great run and cross from Kendall.

Plenty to like about how they are playing: with room for improvement too. On the showing this spring there will be lots of opportunity for speculation as to starting line up in the fall.

They started off pretty slow the first 20 minutes as the cougs played at a frenzied pace. By the middle of the second half, they had run themselves out and pretty much stopped chasing.

Up controlled the ball for the second part of the first half, and most of the second. WSU did have a couple of runs, but the defenders shut them down pretty effectively.

Molly did lose a shoulder to shoulder in the box which resulted in a 1v 1, but Nicole ended that chance with a Great save. Otherwise, Molly did well.

I thought MO had another good game. She had a couple of nice takeaways.

N. Downing can sure boot ball way past mid field.

WSU had a couple of dangerous players with speed. Besides the save they had one off the crossbar too.

So.. Does anyone else think they are saving the fifth game for just before the season?

I think we did the same thing in 2006 or 2007

Given that they only have 11 outfield players in uniform - and, therefore, how important it will be to take a look at the situation again in the fall when freshmen are here and others are healthy - it would make sense to me to use a game before the season if that is possible.

I have some great memories of the game they had against the Mexican national team several years ago. Was that in the Summer...like in July? Merlo was packed and there were a lot of Mexican flags as well... I wish we could work that out again.

Six years ago last Friday.

That's when I found out the Mexican national anthem has 10 stanzas with a chorus between each.

Sad quote buried in the end of that story: "Portland sophomore defender Rebecca Meierbachtol left midway through the first half with a knee injury and did not return." And indeed she never did return to play but was an inspirational part of the team.

She still comes to most of the games and always seems to be smiling.

I saw Rebecca M milling about the admin offices in the Chiles Center last week after the WSU match. Good to see her. I even commented to my wife that she might just be working for the Pilots in some capacity?

She doesn't come up on the online directory, but that doesn't mean much.
