Mock Selection Bracket Empty Mock Selection Bracket

Post by PurplePrideTrumpet Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:37 pm

Every year the NCAA brings in members of the media to participate in a mock tournament selection. The idea is to show what goes into the process.

The finished bracket doesn't mean a whole lot, but this one has three WCC teams so here it is just for fun:

http://twitdoc.com/upload/gashaheen/2011-media-mock-bracket.pdf

St. Mary's gets a 10 seed and plays George Mason in Tucson. Future member BYU gets a 2 and plays Pacific in Denver.

Here's something a little more interesting. Gonzaga gets one of the last 4 at-large bids and plays Florida State. The winner is an 11 seed and plays Syracuse in Chicago. Remember, 4 play-in games this year. Two games for four AQs and two games with at-large teams.

Now...the NCAA will tell the committee to assume certain teams have won their conference tournament to simulate the shifting around that happens when a surprise team get an automatic bid. In this exercise Portland wins the WCC tourney. They are a 13 seed and play...Villanova. I know, right? Shocked If they were going to Milwaukee it would really be scarey, but it's in Tampa.

Any other old school Pilot fans think this is a sign? Basketball

PS--Kyle Whelliston actually did one of these in 2009 and it's worth reading to see how the process really works. http://www.midmajority.com/p/1296

At least they don't have Kerry Kittles. One of our fastest UP players was guarding him coming down the court and couldn't keep up in a full sprint - and Kittles was dribbling...

If being an old school fan means hanging on to hope for as long as possible, I hear where you're coming from....however....

I don't think this is a sign. We're far from being a favorite to win the WCC tourney. Let's keep it real here. We've been horribly inconsistent in 2011. We are 6-6 in 2011 with one big home win over St. Mary's. Our RPI has dipped to #96. Anyone who picks us to win the WCC tourney at this time is drinking strongly spiked Kool Aid and not really paying much attention to WCC play.

So you're saying we have a chance the WCC tournament falls during the upswing of our inconsistency and we win the thing?
